Located on 44 acres in Eastern North Carolina, we are raising Registered Dorper Sheep and Registered Maremma Livestock Guardian Dogs
Dorpers originated in South Africa to create a breed that could survive the harsh conditions there.  They were developed by crossing Horned Dorset Rams with Black Headed Persian Ewes.
Dorpers are a "Hair Sheep" which means they shed their wool and don't need shearing.  They are raised for the meat, which has a milder flavor than the wool breeds.
Snowflake,  the first lamb born on the farm on March 22, 2005
Dorpers are good mothers and generally have twins or triplets after the first breeding. Gestation is about 5 months so its possible to have 3 lambings in 2 years, or one about every 8 months.  Six lambs in 2 years  from each ewe is possible
By crossbreeding Dorpers with Katahdins, you get Percentage Dorpers that grow faster and produce more meat.  Percentage Dorpers can vary in color and patterns as you can see from some of these lambs

Maremma LGD's  are an ancient breed that can be traced back over 2000 years.  Although they were originally bred to be able to kill wolves, they are loving and gentle towards people, pets, and any of the animals they guard
Beau is now 2 years old,  29 inches tall at the shoulder and around 125 pounds.  His parents were imported from Italy.
My female, Bearfoot Belle, is about the same size.  Usually females are smaller.  They should produce some gorgeous pups
Beau
Belle is large for a female Maremma.

We added another female from Fieldstone Kennels in early March of 2007 and have high hopes for her also
