Atascadero Wins 4th Straight League Title—10-0 league record!
Atascadero Greyhounds Girls’ soccer team finished the league season in style Thursday evening putting the hurt to the Morro Bay Pirates 7-0. Six Greyhounds scored led by Chesea Johnson’s blast 30 seconds into the match after a series of one-touch precision passes. Darci Davis capped her 4-year Varsity career with two goals from her sweeper position. It was a fantastic team effort-just what they needed heading into CIF-SS playoffs next week.
The Players
Up front at forward the Hounds feature a prolific group of strikers including juniors Amy Smith and frosh sensation Chelsea Johnson. Last years top striker Anna Kinney moves back to midfield along with Becka Hurlburt in the center with Mandy Raike, Melanie Raybourn, Jessica Curtis and Kelli Michielssen leading the wings. Michielssen joins the Varsity after a strong season as MVP of the undefeated, unscored upon Frosh/soph team.
At defense the team shines with senior Darci Davis at sweeper, Kristyn Kellogg at central defense and Jessica Hakim and Lauren Weaver at the outside fullbacks. Add a solid core of three keepers including last years starting frosh keeper Marina Reyes and backup Heather Stillions. Meagan Loy, sophomore midfielder and Haley Tice Jr. forward expect to see a lot of action. Tice can also play a strong fullback where she plays on her CCU club team. Shelly Liggitt, forward/mid adds the final touch to the depth.
