The Original Standard Dachshunds

Standard dachshunds were originally developed to hunt and kill badgers. Badgers are vicious animals that weigh between thirty-five to forty pounds and make their homes in large underground dens.

Because the standard dachshund had to go into the badger's den and battle it alone he had to depend only upon himself to survive. This fearsome job required a large dog with powerful muscles, an athletic build, a calm nature, a lot of heart and an ability to make very good decisions.

Our Dachshunds

Our dogs reflect the original standard dachshund type; large smooth reds that are calm, brave, resourceful, tenacious, curious, and extremely loyal to their people. They also have the deep bark that was needed when the dog was working underground.
