Safety for Our Neighborhoods. California Senate Bill 381 and 382

Safety for Our Neighborhoods

I want your help to save all of our neighborhoods. Currently in California, group homes for juvenile murderers or sex offenders can be set up in ANY neighborhood and there is NOTHING the neighborhood or community can do about it if there are 6 or less juveniles in the home. They don't even need to tell you about it. These homes can be right next to schools, parks, Little League fields, etc. Once one of these homes moves in there is nothing you can do about it under the current law. Group homes for 7 or more juveniles have some limitations on them, but not many.

Let us change the laws BEFORE a new law is written in the name of one of our children! I do not want my child to be the next Megan or Amber. Currently there are two bills before the California Senate that will help protect our neighborhoods. SB 381 would prevent minors who have been adjudicated for murder or specified sex offenses from being placed in a group home in a neighborhood that has been zoned residential. Those minors located in a residential zoned group home on January 1, 2004 would be required to move.

Senate Bill 382 would require notification to the planning authority and posting a notice at the proposed site for any new applications for a license or permit to run a group home for minors who are registered sex offender.
