NGC 7789 is a textbook example illustrating why I'm starting to warm to open clusters. It's a beauty. This 15' diameter cluster fits nicely within the 21' diameter true field produced by the 18 mm SWA, TeleVue 3X Barlow combination in my 10-inch Newtonian. My sketch includes more than 50 stars within the cluster. These provide a framework for the misty glow from myriad unresolved stars. A tight grouping of six 12th magnitude stars mingles along the eastern edge of NGC 7789. The cluster's overall appearance reminds me of a blooming white rose. To me, this is the "White Rose" cluster. You'll find it about 3 degrees southwest of 2.3 magnitude Beta Cassiopeiae.
