About Us

Black Sand Stable is a small, family run and family oriented stable located in Orleans MA (down on Cape Cod). We currently offer lessons, trail rides, and boarding. While we do some showing, our main purpose is to provide a safe and fun environment for local children (and adults!) to learn about horses.

|
Lessons: Lessons are an hour long. For beginners, the hour will include 30-40 minutes of riding time, but also instruction before and after on how to groom, saddle, and bridle the horse, as well as cooling down and untacking afterwards. For more experienced riders, the hour includes the same 30-40 minutes of riding time, and they are expected to groom and tack up on their own. Trail Rides: We offer trail rides through Nickerson State Park and along the Orleans and Brewster Conservation Areas. Basic instruction is given to beginners before leaving. Rides usually last an hour to an hour and a half. Riders must be at least 10 years old. For more advanced riders, 3 hour rides are also available. Please visit the What to Expect link for more info on trail riding. We do offer trail rides year round!
Pony Rides: We no longer offer Pony Rides.
Boarding: Boarding is available, and includes all care, feed, and all day turnout (except during bad weather). We are currently FULL and have no stalls available. Please check back for updates.
Horses for Sale: Occasionally we do have horses for sale, however none at this time.

Pricing as of April 2006
Trail Riding - $65 per person per hour
Lessons - $50 per hour
Practice sessions - $25 per hour, students are expected to tack up on their own, open to regular students only.

What's New
We currently do not have a set schedule - lessons and trail rides are by appointment until the beginning of summer.
Beginning April 10, we have a "Horses for Beginners" course running with Nauset Community Education.
The stable is CLOSED on Mondays, and open only on a limited basis on Sunday and Tuesdays only for regular students to practice.
