January 31, 2004 - Super Bowl MVPs Troy Aikman (XXVII), Marcus Allen (XVIII), Terrell Davis (XXXII) and Franco Harris (IX) will be hosting the Ultimate Low Carb Tailgate Party for 50 members of the 147th Fighter Wing of the Texas Air National Guard, in Houston on Super Bowl Saturday. Says Troy, "It's great to have members of the armed forces at the party. It's a chance to honor the things they've done for this country."

Ted Allen, the witty and very adorable food and wine expert from the Bravo hit show "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy," will assist the guys in their roles as party hosts.

Approximately 35 million Americans are following a low carb regimen, and the MVPs have posted their favorite low carb recipes on www.lowcarbparties.com to help football fans stick to their diet on Super Bowl Sunday. Included are zero carb cocktails like Troy's Smirnoff Lean Martini and his Smirnoff Citrus & Soda, Marcus' Crown Royal and Soda, Terrell's Jose Cuervo Zero Carb Mexi-Cola and Harris' Johnnie Walker Red and Ginger. Food recipes include Troy's Teriyaki Chicken Wings, Marcus' Three Pepper Beef Kabobs, Franco's Barbecue Ribs, and Terrell's Low Carb Chili.

January 30, 2004 - Troy is in Houston helping the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids recruit a different team of "C.H.A.M.P.S.S." As part of a national campaign called "Children Helping and Motivating Parents to Stop Smoking," Troy is encouraging kids to enter the "C.H.A.M.P.S.S. Help Parents Quit Smoking" essay contest, which will reward them for their ideas on ways to help parents become smoke-free.

Troy, whose grandmother died of colon cancer likely related to smoking, and whose father was a longtime smoker who eventually quit, knows how important support from family and loved ones can be for a smoker trying to quit.

"When my grandmother passed away, I realized the devastating toll cigarette smoking can have on a person's health, but it wasn't until my father decided to quit that I understood just how difficult that can be for a smoker," said Troy. "Smokers need the support of their families and loved ones when they are trying to quit smoking. That's why I want kids to know that they can make a difference by encouraging their parents to quit and supporting them through a quit attempt."

The "C.H.A.M.P.S.S. Help Parents Quit Smoking" contest invites kids ages 13-18 to log on to www.champss.org and explain in 100 words or less what they did or plan to do to help their parent, or another adult smoker in their lives, to quit. An independent panel of judges will evaluate submissions based on creativity, originality, sincerity, grammar and composition. Three contest finalists will receive $1,500 cash scholarships, and one grand-prize winner will receive a $5,000 cash scholarship and a trip for two to Washington, D.C., where he or she will be recognized at the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids 2004 Youth Advocates of the Year Award Ceremonies on May 5, 2004. All contest entries must be received by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) February 20, 2004. Limit one entry per person.

January 21 - 25, 2004 - Troy competed in the 2004 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, in the Palm Springs, California environs. This is a five-day 90-hole golf tournament, with a four-day celebrity Pro-Am. Troy, who is listed for the tournament with a 3 handicap, was paired for the tourney as follows (all times Pacific):

  • January 21 (Wednesday) - Round One, Bermuda Dunes Country Club. Tee off was at 9:33 a.m., and the team's pro golfer was Jesper Parnevik. Troy and teammates Robert Abate and Carl Westcott finished day one of the tournament at -13, 5 strokes off the leader.

  • January 22 (Thursday) - Round Two, La Quinta Country Club. Tee off was at 8:30 a.m., and the team's pro golfer was Mike Weir. After posting a round of -9, Troy and teammates Robert Abate and Carl Westcott finished day two of the tournament at -22, 9 strokes off the leader.

  • January 23 (Friday) - Round Three, Indian Wells Country Club. Tee off was at 10:27 a.m., and the team's pro golfer was Peter Jacobsen. After posting a round of -12, Troy and teammates Robert Abate and Carl Westcott finished day three of the tournament at -34, 12 strokes off the leader.

  • January 24 (Saturday) - Round Four, PGA West Arnold Palmer Course. Tee off was at 9:24 a.m., and the team's pro golfer was Frederik Jacobson (On ABC the announcers had asked Troy if Jacobson, who is Swedish, knew who he was. Troy said, nope, not at all). Troy and teammates Robert Abate and Carl Westcott had the top round of the celebrity tournament on Saturday, posting a -20! They finished the tournament at -54, just five strokes off the winning team which included celebs Roger Clemens and Carson Daly.

  • Saturday on ABC starting at 3 p.m. Eastern
