Visualization...My Special Place
~*~ Visualization....My Special Place ~*~
   Note:         This relaxation technique may not be for everyone,  it really depends upon your level of  pain.  It is however a very safe method to relax and relieve the stress and tension of everyday life.   It's been used in natural childbirth and in other areas of healthcare situations as well.
For several years now, I've used visualization to relax and ease the pain of Fibromyalgia and the many related illnesses that seem to go hand in hand.  I find that it works for me so well that I don't have to rely on pain pills.  I practice it before falling asleep at night and within a matter of minutes I'm able to drift off for a restorative nights sleep.  It relaxes me when I'm in a painful Fibro flare of increased symptoms also.
Through visualization, you too can learn to create a pleasant level of relaxation for yourself.  This can be done during any time of the day or night.  This is what I do and it does take a little time to learn to relax and empty your mind of all the days many stresses and allow yourself to focus on just one thing.  In time you'll be able to go instantly to your Special Place too, allowing your mind to be on just this alone.
I focus my mind on my "Special Place", one thats mine alone, a place I've created  and can go back to anytime I want to.  A very peaceful, serene, quiet and very restful safe place that I can retreat to.  This is how I start....it's as easy as just breathing in and out and learning to focus on the place you've chosen and to begin emptying your mind of all things and the many happenings of your day.
I breathe deeply and exhale slowly 3 to 4 times as I close my eyes and allow my mind to drift away to my special place.  Choose what ever place is comforting to you....like a calm country setting, a leisurely stroll along the beach or perhaps to my favorite place,  which is a flower garden beside a peaceful ocean seaside.
Music quietly playing in the background may help also....or perhaps for some, just the silence will be enough to create that peaceful personal, one of a kind place, that's yours all alone.
I continue breathing and picture in my mind this beautiful quiet place.  Feeling the sun's warmth upon my skin, as a cool breeze flows gently  through my hair and the soft gentle sounds of nature are all around me.  I begin to relax my tense muscles and start to feel the tension of the days events leave my body.
As I visualize my special place, all the many stresses of every day life, and the pains that I've had to bear begin to drift away with the gentle breezes around me.  I start my deep slow breathing relaxation exercises whenever I need them, when I'm tired, in pain or just trying to calm myself for a restful sleep at bedtime.
I know that some of us are experiencing panic attacks and may have a lot of stress in our lives also, whether due to pain of illness or some trama related causes.  The visualization can benefit us and allow us to focus off the panic, pain, and stress that's come in and invades all of our lives.
I also find that when fatigue overtakes me in the afternoon,  something as simple as a hot cup of tea is very soothing and for what ever reason, it helps to relieve the fatigue.  My dear daughter Deborah suggested this idea to me and it works really well for us....sometimes two cups are needed.
I've placed a few links at the bottom of the page where you can find more information on visualization and relaxation, I hope that you find something that will help you.
" Dawning Of A New Day "

Sometimes when I'm weary
And feel I can't go on,
I sneak off to my "Special Place "
In the light of early dawn.
My place is deep in woodlands;
" God's Country " it's called by some.
When my burden gets too heavy,
I hear my place call, " Come ".

I go there when I'm saddened,
And my heart is aching so;
The beauty and serenity
Help to ease my pain....I know.
It's there that I find comfort;
Sometimes I need solitude.
I feel so much closer to God,
And He gently lifts my mood.

I don't know if it's my Special Place,
Or the Lord above, Himself;
But somehow when I leave there,
I feel that I have wealth.
Perhaps it's just my being there;
Or maybe it's God's own way,
Of telling me to try again;
It's the dawning of a new day.
