FAMILY HISTORY
Si, Hablamos Ingles
We remember…
(Always adding):
Jose Maria Montijo and Narcissa Viscarra, who migrated from Sonora, Mexico, were married
in San Diego around the turn of the century…
Grandpa Jose Maria Montijo, helped in the building of the Hotel Del Coronado in the late 1800’s , lived and had children in Coronado's tent city,
and worked as a keeper at the San Diego Zoo in the early 1900's…
Jose Maria loved horses, carpentry, gardening, animals and
working with wood or rocks to build a wall or fence...
Two of their sons were Teamster’s, hauling freight via horse and wagon,
South to Mexico or East to Arizona. Later, with gas or diesel trucks…
Several of their sons served in the US Navy during WWII…
Some of the Montijo daughters and sons worked in San Diego’s Defense Plants,
supporting America’s War effort overseas.
All of us inherited some form of artistic talents or creative abilities...
We remember watching our relatives helping build some
of the floats for El Cajon’s Mother Goose Parade in the 60’s...
The families get togethers, steer-head barbecues, and
birthday parties or wakes and polka music
at Uncle Ben's Ranch in Johns Town...
Grandma Narcissa's fruit trees, green garden and small aviary at her home
on Coolidge Ave., in National City, and her little dog Blackie too...
Her player piano in the living room, and the wooden toys we always had to put away...
Aunt Irva’s beautiful piano music and quilts at Christmas…
Uncle John joking around, always…
Uncle Joe at National City's Kimball Park after the May Time Band Review or
his involvement with the Old Town San Diego Historical Society...
We all have seen San Diego County change and grow over the years…
