The Best Dog In The World

BUFFY'S WORLD

This little piece of the world is dedicated to our Buffy. She passed away Wednesday July 14, 1999 from cancer.
Buffy came in to our lives in December of 1988. I got her for my wife for Christmas. She was an amazing dog, and the smartest one that I ever saw. All the kids called her Lassie, but she didn't care what you called her as long as she could lick you all over the face. On June 3rd however, we learned that Buffy had Lymphosarcoma. In other words, she had cancer. We had 3 options. We could let the disease run it's course and it would take her life within 6 weeks. We could have given her a pill that would have maybe bought her 6 months. We decided to try chemotherapy, which the doctor said would buy her between 1 and 1 1/2 years. They said that she had a good chance and would have a good quality of life. That wasn't the case for our Buffy. The cancer quickly spread to her central nervous system and made it hard for her to walk. We took her to the hospital on Thursday, July 8th and the doctors did all they could to fight the cancer. Wednesday July 14th the doctor called and said that she had taken a turn for the worse and suggested that we stop all treatments for her. We made a final visit that morning and said our final goodbyes. Buffy was in really bad shape and I don't think she knew who we were. She couldn't even get up and was breathing very hard. I pray to God that she is in a much better place now and at least know that she isn't suffering anymore. She was very special to us we are going to miss her forever.

BUFFY'S FAVORITE THINGS TO DO

Buffy liked to lay around with her feet up in the air. She enjoyed playing with her stuffed animals. She also liked to go for walks and sniff all the mailbox posts. When she was younger she would chase the water stream from the garden hose when I washed the cars, barking up a storm. She liked to protect her mommy from anyone that tried to do anything bad to her.

A FUNNY STORY ABOUT A TIME IN HER LIFE

I remember one day when she was only a few years old she jumped up on our bed early in the morning and woke us up. She had a round steak bone stuck around her lower jaw, past her fangs and couldn't get it off. I tried everything I could think of but couldn't get it off either. The poor thing, she had no where to put her tongue and was drooling all over the place. We had to take her to the vet to have it removed. Needless to say, she didn't get any more bones like that!!
