SNOWMOBILING IN CRATER LAKE NP Snowmobiling will be allowed in Crater Lake National Park (the one trail from the north entrance) for this coming season - 2000-2001 - but is questionable after that. The best chance of keeping the park open to snowmobiling is to write Chuck Lundy, Superintendant at Crater Lake National Park, and that this trail should remain open. the more response he gets from us, the better our chances.Contact him at:
Chuck Lundy Crater Lake National Park P.O. Box 7 Crater Lake, OR 97604
Or fax at (541) 594-2299

(5-7-2000) WE ARE UNDER ATTACK!
The National Parks Service is halting snowmobiling in all National Parks as ordered by the Clinton-Gore administration. We are also facing the Roadless Initiative and New National Monuments that will close off many more areas to ALL of us. Everyone who cares about the use and enjoyment of our National Parks and Forests must protest!! it is URGENT that you call or e-mail your Congressman and Senators NOW! Tell them:
*We do not want to be locked out of our National Parks and Forests
*NO MORE catering to anti-access extremists. We have a voice and should be heard
*We need good management, not closures. Technology is providing answers to emission and sound issues
*Ask that your Congressman/Senators help us and support our efforts
Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 to reach your Congressman/Senator.
To e-mail your Congressman/Senator, click on the link below, it will take you to a web site, all you need to do is type in your zip code and send them e-mail, EASY! Remember, to stay silent is a vote against us.
(4-28-00) CRATER LAKE HALTS SNOWMOBILING!
Snowmobiling will probably be eliminated at Crater Lake National Park.
Crater Lake Superintendent Chuck Lundy said this morning that directives from the National Park Service and Department of the Interior appear to leave no choice but to end snowmobile use. The 10 mile trail that leads to the rim of Crater Lake with a spectacular view is one of Southern Oregon's main attractions for snowmobilers, and without a groomer permited in the National Park, will close the north end of Crater Lake to all winter recreationists except those very few who can travel the 10 miles on foot in up to 15 feet of snow. View the picture of Crater Lake below to see what you may never see in person.
More on this issue and other closures later.
