May 27, 1999 - Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, Mississippi: 1998/1997 Women's U.S. National Amateur 125-lb Champion Alicia Ashley staked her claim to a place near the top of the featherweight division with an eight-round unanimous decision over IFBA featherweight champion Bonnie Canino of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Alicia is now 2-1. Alicia has knocked off two big names (Canino and Britain's World Kickboxing champion Lisa Howarth).

May 20, 1999 - Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada:
1998/1997 Women's U.S. National Amateur 125-lb Champion Alicia Ashley lost a hard-fought majority decision (57-57, 58-56, 58-56) to 1999/1998 Canadian National Amateur Champion Doris Hackl in a six-round fight. Alicia, who beat Lisa Howarth of England in her own pro debut, fell to 1-1 in what was reportedly a "razor-close battle that had the Halifax fans on their feet"!

1998 Women's USA Boxing National Amateur 125-lb titlist Alicia Ashley from Westbury, New York earned a six-round split decision over highly-favored English boxer Lisa Howarth. Both were making their pro boxing debuts, but Howarth is an outstanding world champion kickboxer returning to the ring after having a baby, while Ashley is coming off a promising amateur career. Skills honed by Ashley as an amateur boxer won out over the ring experience of a stellar kickboxer (who had been renowned for the power in her fists) in this bout.
