BSA Cub Pack 409

While the Boy Scouts were practicing at "Oil City" for the upcoming camporee, the Cubs of Pack 409 went to visit them and learn some camping skills. Those who brought a parent stayed overnight in a tent they pitched themselves for the first time.

They prepared a tin foil meal, and they cooked it on a fire while learning some knots.

When the long day was done they hiked a mile out to the cars.

On May 8, 1999 the cubs took a school bus to Roaring Brook Nature Center in ?? The learned a lot about birds, plants and snakes. They earned ??? It was a wet day and after a short talk in the building, We walked the path through the woods. Then we had lunch on the bus and headed home. We were early so Mrs. Barber stopped the bus at Dunkin Donuts where we bought the kids a couple dozen donuts. (and a well deserved coffee for the adults)
It was a damp day but the rain held off until we got back in the bus and then poured on the way home. The kids didn't care about the rain, they had a great time shaking the trees that the leaders were walking under to give them a shower.

On June 12,13 the cubs joined the Boy Scouts on a trip to Hammonassett beach. They had a great time playing in the swamps and shoals looking for different kinds of crabs and oysters. We filled a bucket with all kinds of sea life, cool plants and many kinds of creepy crawly things. At the end of the day we dumped all that stuff back in the ocean where it came from.
Next we went to the Nature center on the beach and saw a lot of neat stuff. The cubs learned all about the ecosystem of the beach and even saw a Python being fed a mouse (alive of course).
There were a few bugbites and light sunburns but the trip was a great success and the kids enjoyed it so much that they want to go back.

By the way, any Parent who wishes to help out would not only be welcome,
but would also be praised and thanked for their support.

We always need more parents.
