BSA Troop 409, Windsor CT.

This is our 409 logo

Scouting is for all age eligible boys who pass the joining requirements presented on the new scout application form. Scouts will learn how to survive in the wilderness and in their own community.

Scouting is billed as "The School of the Outdoors" and compliments lessons learned in Public School and Church or Synagogues. We believe that Scouting provides young boys with an opportunity to interact with their peers in a safe environment.

The Boy Scout troop is for ages 11-18, and then he can be a Junior Leader. The Cubs from Pack 409 (and other Packs) will end up in the troop upon reaching age 11. Our troop is unique in several ways.

We do a lot of camping and we will bring the Cubs along on many of our trips. We believe the scouting experience involves learning how to teach effectively.

We also believe in the three tiers of survival; Survival in Society, Survival in the wilderness, and Spiritual Survival.

We also have a learning policy; Scouts are not passed to the next rank unless they pass the test. Scouts advance rank by completing a board of review. We treat the Board of review as a test and not as a handshake.

The reason for this is our youth led program. Our boys take an active role in helping us teach. Since we need our older scouts to be sure they know what they are teaching, we make sure they know by our testing at the Board of Review. We therefore have no scouts that don't deserve their rank.

We have our kids decide what they want to get out of scouting and we back up their program by supplying the resources that are nessesary to complete the task. That way the boys plan the cool stuff they want to do, - and they get to do it. We keep our scouts interested this way, and that is the key. Staying in the program keeps teenagers on the right path.

So come down to the Wilson Congregational Church on Wednesdays at 6:30 and see what we are about. Then join our organization and have the fun that we have while learning some of life's great lessons.
