Florida is another of my favourite birding destinations, especially, of course, the Everglades, but almost any place in Florida has bird life and animal life of interest.

Anhinga is a great place to see Purple Gallinules. Sometimes, they almost parade for you.

Alligators seem to be everywhere. Close-ups are not that difficult to come by. This one is at Anhinga Trail in the Everglades.

These two Laughing Gulls at the dock in Flamingo almost seem to be sharing a joke.

This shot of a Pelican landing was taken from a canoe, just off the shore from the Flamingo Visitors' Centre (in full mid-day sun if you can believe it....just cut out some of that light trying to enter the camera and shoot faster).

This Snowy Egret has just caught some lunch in Eco Pond in Flamingo. That was when you could still see stretches of water there.

Point Pelee and Closer to Home
|
|
|
Point Pelee conjures up visions of lifers and rarities; however, there are many other attractions there. Here are a couple that I have seen, along with another couple that were taken closer to home.

This Northern Shoveller was one of dozens of wintering ducks who lined up for free handouts at Grenadier Pond in Toronto.

On this log there is a Blanding's Turtle, as well as a Spotted Turtle on the right (an endangered species). The shot was taken, just off Tilden's Woods in Point Pelee Nat'l Park. I had never seen a Spotted before, and haven't since.

I followed the progress of this young fox and his siblings for weeks, after they swarmed me as young ones barely able to walk. Here, this one has grown a fair bit, since our first meeting. The shot was taken in the Necropolis Cemetery (Toronto), across from my former home.

This Snapping Turtle was on the train tracks, up near Lake St. Clair, north of Point Pelee. It struck me that maybe he'd heard the Tortoise and the Hare thing, and was going to do it one better, when the next train came by.
