Hi, my name is Rett. :-)
We raise show quality Mini Rex in Tortiseshell, Broken Tort, Himi, Tri-colors. In Netherland Dwarfs we breed himi, siamese sable, sable point, smoke pearl, and sometimes have other more rare colors in both netherlands and mini rex. In Harlequins--Japansese
and sometimes magpie.
Have you ever heard of an Astrex Rabbit? It is a curly/wavy rex furred rabbit. Astrex is a genetic mutation that occured originally in the rex breed. I've spent hours doing book and web research only to gather very little information on the Astrex mutation. There's a wa---(double recessive) wave gene that produces the curly/wavy version of a rex or mini rex. The Astrex is all but extinct, and many breeders do not even believe they ever existed. An Astrex appeared in a litter of bunnies last year. His name is Ripples. He is a Harlequin mini Astrex, with curly/wavy fur. (please see my article on Astrex at CentralPets.com) I am currently looking for curly/wavy rex/mini rex, to reproduce and develop the Astrex breed .
About 12 years ago my little sister brought me a tiny orphaned cottontail, which I named Thumper. Everyone told me she'd never live... it was too hard to raise a wild born rabbit. Thumper was so tiny, she didn't have her eyes opened, and I had to bottle feed her. She did live... and for 10 years! Thump died in April of 2000. I had been around rabbits for 25 years or more, but that one little, tiny orphaned bunny taught me so much about rabbits. Thumper taught me rabbits are as intelligent, or moreso, than any dog or cat. She taught me rabbits make excellent house pets, clean, loving, funny and affectionate! It is my goal as a rabbit breeder to educate people, to help, to offer advice and any knowledge I gained in my 10 years as Thumper's "mom"... It is my hope that I can impart even a tiny bit of what Thumper taught me about bunnies to people I may meet, or talk with.
Years ago I read a line somewhere, it stated: "All God's creatures are born tame and made wild by man." In my years of being around animals I find this very true.
