Pavel Families - Early Bohemian Settlers in Butler County, Nebraska


This web site is for anyone interested in finding out more about their Pavel ancestors that settled in Butler County, Nebraska. The following pages are a summary of some of the information I have found about the families.

John Pavel Sr. came to the United States in 1869 with his three sons: John Pavel Jr., Joseph and Matej. They were among the first families that settled in Abie, Butler County, Nebraska. They came from the village of Nasavrky, town of Habry, county of Caslav, in the Czech Republic.

John Pavel Sr. was born about 1815 in Bohemia. He married Anna Nigryn (born in Potehy on 1814) in 1836 in Potehy, Bohemia. John Sr. died in 1899 in Abie, Nebraska and Anna Nigryn died in Abie in 1891.

John Pavel Jr. was born in Bratcice, Bohemia in 1836. He married Josephine Fuxa (born in Nasavrky in 1845) in 1867. John Jr. died in 1922 and Josephine Fuxa died in 1907. John and Josephine Pavel were married in Bohemia. They had one son, Joseph Vaclav Pavel (born 1868 in Nasavrky) when they left Bohemia and settled in Nebraska.

Joseph Pavel was born in 1838 in Potehy, Bohemia. He married Marie Vyskocil about 1869 in Abie. Joseph died in 1913 and Marie died in 1916.

Matej (Matt or Mathew) Pavel was born in 1851. He married Antonia Coufal about 1872 in Abie. Matej died in 1918 in Abie and Antonia died in 1906 in Abie.
