Gloria was born to Dr. & Mrs. Pérez-Nüñez in Santa Ana, El Salvador on November 10, 1934. The eldest of their 4 children, she excelled in her studies, particularly mathematics. Gloria completed high school and university studies in the U.S., where she met Peter, her husband of 52 years. Together, they raised their children in the U.S., Venezuela, Peru, El Salvador, the Philippines, Colombia, Italy and Mexico due to his Foreign Service career. She was the heart of her family, who learned that no matter what part of the world they were in, if Mami was there, everything would be fine: Home is wherever Mami was.
She lived her faith and had room in her heart for everyone. She gave her life to Jesus Christ in June of 1983 when her son Carlos shared the gospel with her. Gloria kept friendships despite time and distance —grade school friends, neighbors from countries where she had raised her family, friends from classes and church... She was a good listener, constant, faithful, steadfast in her beliefs, a woman of principle. Gloria greatly enjoyed Bible study, worship, and fellowship.
She enjoyed travel, foreign cultures and languages, and learning — her children and grandchildren are bilingual due in no small measure to her “no entiendo” policy and use of M&Ms as a didactic tool.. .Although Gloria worked outside the home at various U.S. Embassies, and had many interests and hobbies that she pursued - music, photography, history and anthropology, interior design, ethnic cuisine — her family and her faith were the priorities in her life. No matter what project or activity she was involved in, she always made time for her family and friends.
Gloria loved life. She was fearless, “a fighter” — she took an active role in combating the rare neuro-endocrine cancer with which she was diagnosed three years ago. Her family, CACS family, and friends were her allies until the end. She has found eternal rest and peace with God in heaven, and she continues to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Gloria was the wife of Peter D. Guadagno, mother of Suzanne A. Przygoda, Peter Albert Guadagno Allen, James Guadagno (deceased), Carlos Guadagno and Richard Guadagno. She was the grandmother of Kathryn, Suzy, Alessandra, Joshua, Peter, Becky, Alexandra, and Andrew. Her parents were Gloria Costa de Pérez-Nüñez and Dr. Estanislao Pérez-Nüñez and her siblings were Maria Luisa, Estanislao and Ana Maria.
Peter and the family wish to express their deep gratitude to the members of Immanuel Bible Church, Capital Area Carcinoid Survivors, and many friends who prayed, shared, and stood with them throughout Gloria’s life and illness.
