Carcinoid Awareness Month
CACS has chosen October 2004 as Carcinoid Awareness Month, inviting the governors of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia and the mayor of Washington, DC to issue proclamations. Work is under way to have the governors of other states---and the President as well---also announce Carcinoid Awareness Months. This is important in making the public aware of this rare disease and perhaps in acquiring funding for research that will benefit Carcinoid patients worldwide.

As best this author can determine Bob Getman started this process by getting the governor of Connecticut to issue a proclamation declaring October to be Carcinoid Awareness Month. The governor not only issued one for his state but also contacted other state govornors asking them to do the same and a couple of western states followed his lead. Bob is also working to get a federal declaration by May of 2005.

In August of 2004 Liz Hollenbach, Carol Martin, Larry Chinnery and Linda Silversmith of our CACS group contacted our "local" states of the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia and so far DC and Maryland have responded to this request.
