About Cairde

Their friendships are as harmonious as their melodies and voices. So say members of the central Arkansas Irish band Cairde – and their name supports the claim. Cairde (pronounced CAR-djuh) is the Gaelic word for “friends.” The band specializes in traditional Irish and Celtic music and original music in traditional styles – featuring Laura Brown on flute/whistle, Peggy Loyd on lead vocals/guitar/bodhran/whistle, Joe Ott on bodhran/bones, and Judy Warner on fiddle/concertina. Their repertoire includes music intended to accompany dancing, such as lively jigs, reels, polkas, slip jigs and hornpipes. They sing songs with traditional Irish themes of love and longing, national pride, Irish rebellion and the pleasures of a good pint. The members met while participating in the bi-monthly Irish sessions in Little Rock. Their obvious enthusiasm for playing this music together shows that they truly are “cairde.”

Upcoming Performances

Cairde will appear in the Fourth Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 15, 2003 at 1 p.m. in downtown Little Rock. The Parade begins at McArthur Park at 9th Street, travels north on Main and east on Markham into River Market. The parade is presented by the Irish Cultural Society of Arkansas.

CD NEWS

Cairde is pleased to announce the release of its first CD called "Blessings Rare."

The CD features a "GREAT mix" of the band's songs music -- to quote one of our loyal fans, Amie Clark of Jackson, Ms.
