The following items should be in your car at all times.
Fire Extinguisher
Flashlight
Motor Oil (2qts.)
Duct Tape
Water/Coolant (1gal)
Rags
Fan belt
Spare Tire, filled
Jack, Scissor or Hydrolic
Tools / 8mm to 14mm wrenches, adjustable wrench, standard and phillips screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
For a roadtrip it is suggested that you carry the following items with you.
Spark Plugs
Distributor Cap, Contact Points, Rotor, Condensor
Feeler Gauge
Fuel Filter
Transmission Fluid (90w) w/ pump
Fix-a-Flat
Carb floats, SU Type
Throttle Return Spring
Pocket Knife, Multi-function
Test Light, Electrical
Wire / 14 gauge
Electrical Tape
Brake Fluid, Dot 4
Upper and Lower Radiator Hoses
Fuel Line / 6ft. of 1/4 inch
Electric Fuel Pump
Hose Clamps, few different sizes.
Fuel Can, 2 gallons / plastic
Jumper Cables
Sunscreen
Band Aids
Hand Cleaner
Drinking Water
Cellular Phone with a list of names and numbers
You can usually packed all of the small items in a plastic tackle or lunch box. The larger items can be put in a strong cloth bag and tucked into the wheels wells. You also have some space underneath the spare tire. But before you head out make sure you do a maintenance and safety check.
