How Did I Get These Images?
Almost all of my photos were taken while I was at work aboard one tug or another.
As a deckhand just getting started, I would often infuriate the captain, as I always had my camera on deck with me.
At first, I used a manual camera, often my images were improperly exposed or out of focus. I graduated to an automatic camera as years went by, for when I became a tug mate then captain, I did not have time to make the proper adjustments. I would have my hands full trying to operate the tug, and always striving to get that perfect shot.
My photos are unique, because they come from the tug's perspective. I have said for years that almost anyone can take photos of tugs sitting at the dock, but, that isn't what tugs do.
I capture most of my subjects at work, and you can really only get that perspective by being a tug crewman.
