Transportation Information
Easy traveling in Italy!
We recommend that you plan to arrive in Italy at least one day prior to traveling to Cortona and  we also recommend planning your departure from Italy at least one day following your stay in Cortona to assure a relaxed trip. Rail and/or transportation strikes, though usually lasting only a few hours, may interupt transportation services.
Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport
Florence/Firenze Arrivals & Departures
Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport is nearest to Cortona. Carriers serving this airport include: Air France, Alitalia, Lufthansa, and Sabena. Florence's Amerigo Vespucci Airport (FLR) is only 4 km or about 2-1/2 miles from the city center. The "Volainbus" (see timetable) connects the airport with the SITA terminal next to Florence's main railroad station throughout the day. Allow 25 minutes for the bus ride, or 15 minutes if you travel by taxi. Because the Florence airport is so close to the city, there's no need to stay at an airport hotel. Instead, you can book a room at any hotel in the city center, many of which are within walking distance to the SITA bus and the Santa Maria Novella train stations.

Bus to Florence city center: From the Florence Airport you should take the 'SITA' shuttle to the Florence down-town terminal SITA Bus Station at 17 Via S. Caterina da Siena, (close by the railway station). Departures from the airport every 30 minutes in connection with flights. Find the buses to the right after leaving the arrival area, tickets are available on board the bus.
Travel time: approximately 25 minutes. Ticket price: € 4.50.

Florence Taxi service:
RADIO TAXI    -    0577 49222
TAXI VAN    -    0577 289044

By train from Florence's Santa Maria Novella train station to Cortona is about one and one-half hours. Purchase your tickets at the agent windows or use the interactive ticketing kiosks. Be sure to validate your tickets before boarding the trains. As always, keep personal belongings close and stay aware. Stops are not announced. From Florence, Cortona is usually one or two stops after Arezzo. The stop is "Cortona/Camucia", after Castiglion Fiorentino. The next stop, Terontola, also serves Cortona.
Cortona Taxi: Enzo Adreani Cell: 3358196313 or 0575604245.Approx € 15,00.

Pisa Arrivals and Departures
Many visitors to Florence use the Galileo Galilei Airport in Pisa (PSA), which is larger and busier than Florence's airport. PSA is only 1.5 km or 1 mile from Pisa's city center, making it easy to reach by local bus or taxi. The Hotel Jolly Cavalieri, opposite Pisa's central railroad station, is a good choice if you have an early departure from Galileo Galilei and want to spend the night in Pisa.
Use the timetable at Trenitalia to find trains between Florence Santa Maria Novella (Fl. SMN) and Pisa Centrale (Pisa C) or Pisa Aeroporto (Pisa AE). Allow one to two hours for the journey.
Purchase ticket for Rome Termini at station located across from international arrivals terminal. Choose Termini if you are staying in or visiting the historic center of Rome. If you are traveling north to Cortona purchase your ticket at the ticketing windows or at the esy to use interactive ticketing kiosks. Validate ticket before boarding. Approx. a 30 minute trip.
Train Travel to Cortona/Camucia

Rome Fiumicino Airport to Rome Termini station via the "Leonardo Express" (and return to airport)
starting 2007 the Leonardo Express connection will be even more convenient: at Roma Termini all the trains will arrive and depart from platform 24, which is in the main area of the station and therefore closer to taxis, underground/subway, buses and other services.  The Leonardo Express operates every day even in the event of a rail strike, from 6 am to 11 pm approx., every half-hour guaranteeing coordinated departures in both directions, with journeys lasting 31 minutes. The fare is 11 euro per person, a highly competitive rate compared to the alternative travel options (taxi, private car etc.). Customers can also use the car park “EuroStar - Giolitti” at the special price of 5 euro (instead of 12 euro) for the whole day.
Purchase “Leonardo Express” ticket (€11,00)`for Rome Termini at station located across from international arrivals terminal (Approx. a 30 minute trip on the “Leonardo Express”). Choose Termini if you are staying in or visiting the historic center of Rome or if you are traveling north to Cortona/Camucia (change of train required) immediately, about a 2.5 hour trip to Cortona/Camucia.  You may purchase your ticket to Cortona (€9,40) at the airport station or at Rome Termini at the agent windows or use the interactive ticketing kiosks). Validate ticket before boarding in yellow ticket machines near trains. Trains bound for Firenze (Florence) depart at 11:12a, 1:12p, 3:12p and 5:12p (usually from tracks 1,2, 3 or 4) and stop at Cortona/Camucia (stop immediately after Terontola/Cortona).
Travel from  Camucia/Cortona Station to Cortona
Bus and Taxi service is available to and from Cortona from both train stations in Camucia (closest, 10 minutes) and Terontola (15 minutes).
