Santa Cruz de Barcenas is one of the largest of the Epiclassic to Early Postclassic sites in the region. It is located outside of the earlier core region, along the southern edge of the Tequila valleys. It has two examples of the new U-shaped public architecture thought to begin with the El Grillo phase.
