Name: Stevensville, Eastport, & Central Valley (SE&CV) Layout: Free-Lance design – Feeder Line with connection to Pennsylvania RR Time Period – summer 1952
Overview: The SE&CV runs east from the city of Stevensville in south central Pennsylvania through the mountains to Central Valley and Mineville. The line continues eastward from Mineville through Proctor and No Name to Eastport, the northern most deepwater port on the Susquehanna River. There is also an interchange with the Baltimore & Ohio RR in Eastport. West from Stevensville the SE&CV passes through Joshua Junction to connect with the Pennsylvania RR Bedford Branch in Bedford, Pennsylvania. Freight traffic is exchanged and there is daily special run passenger service from the Pennsylvania mainline to Stevensville by various Class 1 Railroads to reach the 1952 World’s Fair in Stevensville. Bedford - Interchange with Pennsylvania RR (milepost 0) Joshua Junction (milepost 20) Joshua Junction is a small Amish community with several large cattle ranches nearby. Cattle are shipped daily from here to Jackson Meat Packing in Stevensville. Stevensville (milepost 40) Host city for the 1952 World’s Fair, Stevensville is an industrial center with several major industries. Wood’s Furniture and Jackson Meat Packing provide most of the rail traffic with additional traffic for Coverall Paints, National Casket, Stevensville Fuel & Ice, and the Best Bakery. There is a team track for use by the various merchants in town and occasionally a car for Wilhelm’s Mercantile. The main yard of the SE&CV is located in Stevensville. Central Valley (milepost 80) Located on the west branch of Conococheague Creek, Central Valley is home to a power plant, Redwing Milling, Freight Transfer, and Custom Can. The SE&CV has a small yard in Central Valley and the locomotive shops are located there. Mineville (milepost 120) The Champion Mine dominates the landscape at the small company town. Carloads of coal are shipped from here to the power plant in Central Valley. Lumber arrives for shoring of the mine tunnels and occasionally a delivery of parts and machinery. Saturday nights a miner’s special runs into Stevensville and a Sunday afternoon runs carts the drunken miners back to Mineville. Proctor (milepost 160) Proctor is home to a Marble Company with a quarry and cutting shop. No Name (milepost 200) No Name is a small farming community. Eastport (milepost 240) Eastport, the eastern terminus of the SE&CV, is the northern most deepwater port on the Susquehanna River in northeastern Maryland. A Shell Oil Terminal, and the Co-Op grain elevator share the waterfront with the Port Authority Wharf and Warehouse. The American Box Company factory located here ships cardboard packing boxes to most of the industries in Stevensville. Also located near the waterfront is a cannery and the interchange with the Baltimore & Ohio RR. The SE&CV has a small yard and engine house here with a reversing loop for turning the locomotives.
