Interventional Neuroradiology at University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ

Welcome

The Department of Radiology is pleased to announce the opening of our newest section, Interventional Neuroradiology. Dr. Jeffrey Farkas will head the division. Dr Farkas has recently joined the staff at University Hospital (UMDNJ) after completing a fellowship in Interventional Neuroradiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston Massachusetts.

Therapy

Interventional Neuroradiology is a relatively new field that uses state of the art equipment to treat complex cerebrovascular problems from within the blood vessels. Minimally invasive endovascular treatments have had a major impact on the treatment of complex cerebrovascular disorders. Some of the conditions that are currently being treated include Cerebral Aneurysms, Arterio-Venous Malformations, Tumors of the brain, spinal cord and head and neck. Exciting new therapies for Stroke Prevention and treatment are also available.
Conditions in the past considered untreatable can now be treated using endovascular techniques alone or in combination with surgical or medical therapy.
