50+ Things About Me
1. I am a Gemini (June 15th).
2. According to the Chinese Zodiac, I was born in year of the dog (1970).
3. I don't like talking about myself.
4. I was a straight 'A' student until 9th grade.
5. I never had a pet until I was 31 (Betta fish).
6. I can barely swim or ride a bike.
7. I am a glutton for ethnic foods (Thai is my fave).
8. I drive a 1990 Honda Accord EX.
9. I'm a huge fan of the British duo, Swing Out Sister. I even once flew to San Francisco just to catch one of their shows.
10. I once finished fourth out of 800 entrants in a statewide high school poetry competition. What sucks is that the first three prizes were WAY better than mine.
11. I have six older siblings (four brothers and two sisters).
12. I traveled to Latin America 18 times from 1991-2003, for both work and leisure.
13. I like to visit tall buildings...for the bird's eye and panoramic views.
14. I am very much a night owl. Even if I had a job that required me to wake up at 5AM, I usually would go to bed around midnight.
15. I love to watch the Summer Olympic broadcasts.
16. I like to spend time in pool halls, mainly playing 8- or 9-Ball and snooker.
17. I would like to learn how to play 3-Cushion Billiards.
18. My fingernails grow obscenely fast.
19. After cutting my nails, I will file them.
20. Although I am a Colorado native, I have never gone skiing, nor have any inclination to learn...I just don't like cold weather.
21. I wear size 10 shoes.
22. I rarely like to go barefoot in a house.
23. I have never broken a bone in my body.
24. At 6'0", I am the third tallest in my family.
25. I am known for my caustic sense of humor.
26. If I could play any instrument, it would be the drums. I do love the sounds of guitars (acoustic/electric) and trombones though...
27. I collected comic books for seven years, from the time I was 11 until the age of 18.
28. I have visited 17 of the 32 states in Mexico.
29. In 1993, I was almost abducted by two men in a black VW Beetle in Puebla, Mexico.
30. I am enamored with the Peruvian game called 'Sapo.'
31. I played enormous amounts of chess from the age of 8 to 23.
32. At the age of six, I was determined to have a 170 IQ and am still self conscious about it to this very day. I never liked being the smartest one in class; I always longed to be 'average.'
33. I contracted labyrinthitis at the age of 26 and couldn't work for two months.
34. I wore orthodontic braces for two years, three months, and 25 days.
35. I wear two rings on my right pinky finger.
36. My left thumb is double jointed.
37. I started taking to-go orders at my parents' restaurant at the age of five.
38. I started cashiering at the age of seven.
39. I have occasional diminished hearing in my right ear due to attending copious amounts of heavy metal concerts in my teenage and college years.
40. I grew up watching Hong Kong martial arts (called 'chop-socky' or 'kung fu') movies long before it was en vogue.
41. I never got to know my paternal grandparents nor my maternal grandfather. They had all passed on long before I was born.
42. I had never tried marijuana until the age of 22.
43. I must sleep with two pillows.
44. I'm very warm natured...and will sleep without covers 70% of the time.
45. Although Dr. Pepper and Coke are my preferred brands of soft drinks, I must have root beer when I'm eating pizza.
46. I usually have lip balm with me...but I hate Chap-Stick.
47. I have a slight allergy to bleached wheat products.
48. I have little patience for inconsiderate people.
49. I carry a coupon organizer when I go grocery shopping; I am one step from being miserly ;)
50. I can only type about 45 wpm.
51. I usually take old (but not tattered) clothes when I travel to Latin America and leave them behind when I depart a city; the workers can always find someone who may need it.
52. I took a donation cache of $200 and a huge box of school supplies to Bella Union, Peru when I dug there in 1995.
53. I played numerous pranks on a favorite teacher of mine in high school...some pranks included filling her entire desk with popcorn...putting in a fully decorated xmas tree in her room (even though she was Jewish ;)...and filling her room with 1200 balloons (it was supposed to be 2000, but more than half the people I recruited to help me, crapped out).
54. I come from a family of pack rats...we get it from our mom. Luckily, of the seven kids, I throw away the third most...does that make sense?
55. Most people consider me to be a really nice (and funny guy), but with a wicked and spiteful streak.
56. Some of my best friends I have today, I met in the 8th grade.
57. Math was considered to be my academic forte until I flunked out of Calculus as a junior in high school. I concentrated on foreign language and history after that ;)
58. I actually LIKE cafeteria food...
59. I became interested in travel and cultures when my brother, Steve, got a Nat'l Geo. subscription for our parents in 1978.
60. I have a lifelong dream of visiting the Angkor (Wat and Thom) ruins of Cambodia.
61. I will drink coffee daily when I travel even though I don't drink it at home.
62. My neighbor and I waved down cars to help a bicyclist who had crashed; I was ten and he (neighbor) was seven years old.
63. I once ate 16 tacos and 2 quesadillas in a taqueria in Guanajuato, Mexico before my girlfriend said to me..."If I watch you eat one more thing, I'm gonna barf. We are leaving NOW!" Who can argue that logic? ;)
64. At the age of 16, I became enamored, if not downright obsessive, with Maya culture and archaeology the first time I saw a picture of Tikal's Temple II.
65. I tend to be both a perfectionist and a horrible procrastinator.
66. I worked part-time at the Denver Art Museum for two years as a teacher, specializing in Maya Ceramics, Peruvian Textiles, Spanish Silver, and Samurai.
67. For a time, my neighbor (see #62) called me PimPim because he couldn't pronounce my name.
68. I'll sneak my own water, Gummi Bears, and Reeses Cups into movie theaters.
69. I have worn glasses since I was 13 and contacts since I was 16.
70. I can't stand having a dirty windshield or driving someone else's car with one.
71. I have a fairly good photographic memory. I was able to recall what my notes looked like and its contents for tests in college.
72. In my junior year of college, I decided to travel to Costa Rica instead of taking mid-terms...stoopid...but still worthwhile ;)
