MADISON METRO TRANSIT INFORMATION
Official Web site of Madison Metro.In 1970, Madison Metro became responsible for all transit lines in the Madison area. The last streetcars ran in 1935.
MADISON TRANSIT HISTORY
In 1884, the Madison Street Railroad Co. was the first of several companies to operate public transportation in Madison. Streetcars were abandoned early, and the Madison Bus Co. had the longest run of any of the private companies.

TRANSIT ROUTES - PAST AND PRESENT
Many of today's bus routes in Madison have histories which can be traced back to streetcars, and even mule cars.

MADISON TRANSIT FACILITIES
Madison Railways Co. had its carhouse at 166 Fair Oaks Ave., on the east side of the city at the end of the Fair Oaks streetcar route. This facility became the bus garage for the Madison Bus Co., and in 1980 was replaced by the present Madison Metro garage at 1101 E. Washington Ave., east of downtown Madison.
