METRO TRANSIT INFORMATION
Official Web site of St. Louis Metro.In 1963, the Bi-State Development Agency assumed operation of all transit lines in the St. Louis area. And in 2003, the Bi-State Development Agency was renamed Metro. The last streetcars ran in 1966, although a new light rail line opened in 1993.

ST. LOUIS TRANSIT HISTORY/MAPS
Several street railway companies operated in St. Louis from 1859 until 1898, when the United Railways Co. of St. Louis assumed operation of all electric railways in St. Louis. From 1927 to 1963, the St. Louis Public Service Co. was the main transit provider. The People's Motorbus Co. operated the first buses beginning in 1923, in competition with the streetcars. But those buses were taken over by the St. Louis Public Service Co. in 1934.
TRANSIT ROUTES - PAST AND PRESENT
Many of today's bus routes in St. Louis have histories which can be traced back to streetcars, and even horse cars.
BUS AND STREETCAR ROSTERS
Buses have operated in St. Louis since 1923. The last streetcars ran in 1966.

The various carhouses in St. Louis evolved into two present day bus garages.
