AMERICA'S STREAMLINERS

AMERICA'S STREAMLINERS

BOSTON & MAINE/MAINE CENTRAL

(POST WW II)

After the war, Boston & Maine and Maine Central focused their streamlining efforts on the jointly operated corridor from Boston to Portland and Bangor. Three conventional streamlined trains operated daily each way, while the original pre war articulated streamliner was shifted to the Cheshire. Between Boston and Portland, corridor service was resurrected in recent years by Amtrak. In addition to the streamliners mentioned, Boston & Maine operated America's largest fleet of Rail Diesel Cars built by Budd, mainly in Boston area commuter service.

Only streamlined trains and the most important stations are shown.
