The year is in the late 1800's and Shayleen O'Malley is coming home to Colorado from the East. Shayleen is the daughter of Tom and Katherine O'Malley, and is loved by everyone in the town. When Shayleen left five years ago to attend school, she was a tomboy. Now that's she's back, she turned out to be a very beautiful woman. The O'Malley's have a ranch that takes many men to care for it. When Tom gets shot by an outsider, he is put out for a few weeks. Shayleen took it upon herself to take care of the ranch. That's what kind of person she was. Very determined and strong-willed. Trace Cooper comes on the scene saving Shayleen from a rattlesnake encounter. Back where Trace lives, his sister, Laughing Eyes, and Father, Thunder Sky, help her recover. Now that Trace has seen Shayleen, he doesn't want to leave her. He comes around the ranch every so often, then worked there when Tom was ill. Another man who has been enraptured by Shayleen is Chance, the sheriff. They have been in love since they were young and grew up together. But after meeting Trace, will Chance have a...chance with Shayleen anymore? Set back in the 1800's makes this a really good read. If you like romance, you'll love this three part series with Shayleen and the gang. A true love story at it's best.

I was captured on my reading of the author's first installment of the life of Shayleen, a spunky young women. Shayleen, who had drawn the hearts of two wonderful men, now you finally see where her choice has taken her.
Living in the 1800's we find in this second book Shayleen married to her 'mountain man' Trace. I smiled as I read of the joyous life she was living. Loved by a wonderful man, blessed with several children, surrounded by close friends and family, Shayleen had everything any women could ask for.....until her world was shattered and her life would change forever.
Hearing the news that General Custer and all of his men were massacred sent the territory into a time of deep hate among the Indian and the white man. The author takes you into the soul of Shayleen as she struggles with the injustices that are running rampart in the land she loves.
You travel with Shayleen through her life, bear with her the loss of friends and family, times and places. You rejoice with her over the birth of more children and the victory she receives in her battle against those who breed hatread towards the natives of the land.
The author brings to light all that has happened to the characters that you had come to know and love in her first book, weaving them into the storyline and drawing you into the very heart of their existence.
There are so many happenings in this work. Some joyous, some heartbreaking and as we come to the end of Shayleen's life, we laugh and we cry. Glad that she has a granddaughter that has her Spirit and will carry on her vision, glad that she will be reunited with her love Trace for eternity, yet sad that the earth would no longer have the spark of life from this women, that you knew made it a better place to live.
Dark Skies of Autumn, a book about life, death, fear, hope and eternity. Well worth your time.
Shirley Johnson Senoir Reviewer fo MidWest Book Review
The book has mostly long sentences, long paragraphs, long chapters, and lots of description. The book has multiple plot lines, flashbacks, and/or alternating chapters related from different points of view. The author's style is simple and straight forward. The book is a real 'page turner.' The author's intent is to have you sympathize with the characters and their points of view. The background is detailed and affects the atmosphere. The focus of story is on action, situations, and events. Characterization focuses on several characters of different sexes whose lives are intertwined. The social class of the character(s) is middle class. The characters are developed over time. There are memorable and important secondary characters. The book will leave you feeling content, at ease, peaceful. The book is serious, challenging, sober, formal, solemn. The ending wraps everything up.

This second book in the Dark Skies series picks up three years later in the life of Shayleen (Autumn Sky) Cooper. Now married to the man she loves, Trace Cooper, she settles down to life on their ranch in Colorado Springs. Things were going well until the massacre at Little Big Horn. No Indian was safe once that happened and Shayleen finds she has a new mission in life. Hardship on hardship is laid at her door. Can Shayleen face the tragedies yet to come?
Trace Cooper has loved Shayleen most of his life. He wouldn't know how to get along without her. Her strong spirit and sense of what of right and wrong was what he loved most about her. But would that same spirit get her killed? When Shayleen suffers the loss of so many loved ones, can he help her see that her spirit is strong enough to survive?
Shayleen tries to help save the lives of her Indian brothers and sister in a time when most white men see them as nothing more than savages. When the massacre at Little Big horn brings about the death of her blood sister Laughing Eyes, can she find the will to keep the promise she made to her adopted Indian father?
In a time when the west was still untamed and injustice still shadowed the land, Shayleen O'Malley Cooper also known as Autumn Sky fights to bring about a better way. Will she succeed or will the death of so many break her spirit?
Louise Riveiro-Mitchell writes a story that I found to be rich in character and full of heart. The tragedies Shayleen faces are enough to make most want to give up, but instead she fights even harder to make a difference. I couldn't help but admire the characters Ms. Mitchell has created in this story. Their personalities are so strong and even through the many trials they face, they held strong to their beliefs. I laugh and cried as I followed Shayleen through her life. You will read about a love and passion so real, you'll ask yourself, is this really fiction? I give Dark Skies of Autumn, Book 2 of the Autumn Sky series Enjoy!

Some Of My Poetry
Weep No More
Weep no more for me my lady
For I have never left you all this time
It is true you can not see me
But I am always by your side
You gave me more than I can ever say
You saved me from my own demons
And the strength to face the coming days
You carry in your heart the spirit of the ancient ones
You search for the path to follow
But my sweet lady your path had already begun
The compassion and love you give to all who have been touched by you
Are the beauty that is the essence of a heart so true
So weep no more my sweet lady, and look into your heart
There together we are one and from there I will never part.
Fear Not
Fear not for those who seek ill of you
For they have closed their minds and hearts to the goodness that is in you
They wish you only sorrow and pain
They fear the light that shines form you and from where it came
Be careful of all around you
Think before you speak and heed what you do
You are the vessal that holds compassion and light
You have been given the gifts of truth and sight
Though you walk among many who envy you
I stand by your side always to defend and protect you
You have my spirit, my soul, my heart
And for the rest of your days from you I will never part.
My Lady
I came to you gently on a summer's breeze
Hear my voice in the rustling of the leaves
Look to the sky and see I am watching over you
Always there always smiling over you
In you waking moments and when you are in deep sleep
Your spirit comes to me
Here in this place in time you are with me
I did not want to leave you this you must believe
There was so much more I needed to show you
But time was too short for me
And now once again we are apart
Separated in this world but bonded in our hearts
You are my sweet one, my lady
That's how you'll always be forever and a day
They Answered The Call
They answered the call, their duty was clear
So they left families and the lives their knew here
The smiles and tears they remembered back at home
In the dark hours they came to them and one felt so alone
Death and destruction were all around
One can close his eyes to the sights, but never to the sounds
Comrades and friends lay inured by our side
We can only offer our hand for comfort as deep inside we cry
We see that war brings nothing but widows, orphans, sorrow and tears
Yet mankind still repeats them even after all these years
And so again we leave for a far off land
Asking God's blessing and His guiding hand
And in the darkness of the night we silently pray
Asking Him to grant us yet another day
Dear Heavenly Father who watches from above
Guide these men and women in their journey and embrace them with Your love
May this new war come to a close soon, si they all may come back to this land
And Heavenly Father enlighten the leaders of the world never to start a war again
When It's TIme
I hear a heartfelt sob deep within my soul,
It touches me in such a way, yet for why I don't really know
I pondered on the reason why this sound has come to me
As I think of all that had past and worry of what is to be
My mother the earth weeps for all that has been done
She sees all her children's fate, past, present and beyond
I ask the Great Spirit how can one single soul stop all that has been done
He smiles His light on me and says, my child you have only just begun
Your words are read by many who also seek the answer to the question WHY
You carry the wisdom and heart of all your people who now dwell in the sky
The sobs you hear are your very own
For all those who now have gone
Gone from this world but they memory and spirit live on
Deep in your heart or hearts you know they are always near
Look in your soul my child and that's where I am
Close beside you holding your hand
You still have much to do my child for it still is not the time
But know when your time does come, we will walk together with your hand in mine.
From The Depth Of Your Soul
I feel the sorrow from the depths of your sweet soul
I watched it take away a heart that was once whole
Your tears and pain you hid well from all
But I see those tears and I hear you voice call
You can't keep it locked up all the time
Your soul needs to be free to soar to climb
Fly high above the trees to the mountains that becon you
There above the world you know I will be there waiting for you
For it was not so long a
I stood on that very spot and you wouldn't let me go
You took my hand and wouldn't let go
You said if I jumped you would follow
We bonded in spirit on that day
And forever mor more we will stay that way
My hawk watches over you in the light
And my spirit stands by your side in the darkness of the night
So sleep well my lady for you have my spirit and my heart
They are with you forever and will never part
As We Pass
Though we may pass this way one once
Let us hope there are a few we have touched
By words,a smile, to show some compassion
To offer a hand to another before our time here is done
We seek not glory or praise
We simply express our thoughts and emotions with words on a page
And if we bring a smile or bring back a memory you hold dear
We are only touching your soul as we pass by here
Delusions Of Love
I gave my heart, my spirit, my soul
Yet you took my essence but the emotions you returned with false and cold
My love for you was honest and true
Yet there one thing you couldn't give me was you
Blinded by this need in me for that bond
Delusions of a love that would go on and on
And so my heart is left with loneliness and despair
Yet you don't care
The wisdom I learned it in a painful process
I still search for the answer to this dilemma that makes no sense
I place this on a higher plane
Seeking the answer from a Superior Being
I ask just why had it happened to me
Once Upon A Time
Once upon a time you held my hand in the summer rain
Once upon a time you promised everything would always be the same
Once upon a time you said you will love me till the end of time
Once upon a time you vowed your heart forever would be mine
All these you said and more
But those promises were broken and are no more
Once upon a time I felt I had really found one who loved me
I would move heaven and earth if you asked me
But that was once upon a time long ago
Now you're someone I don't even know
With You I Want To Be
Those haunting eyes that seem to look through me
That sinful smile sends me to a place I'd rather be
An outstretched hand telling to come near
Your magnetic charisma that fades away all my fears
Whisper the words I long to hear
Show me your world and take me there
You looked into my eyes and stripped my soul
What ever you tell me I will follow
Your voice has charmed the gypsy in me
With you there is no beginning or end only eternity
Those haunting eyes cling to me
I know not who you are but with you I want to be.
