Presidentıs
Corner
Just a quick message to say
thanks for a fun time at the last am and pm meetings. Congratulations
to all bingo winners. Remember there is no am general meeting in July
or August, however, if you canıt wait there is a July pm meeting. Check
below for date, time, and place. We have all committee chairpersons in
place with one exception. We do not have an am Hostess. This position
organizes the snack time of our meeting that everyone always enjoys. So
if you are interested, raise your hand, wiggle in your seat, and call me
or email as soon as possible. We would not want any snacks come
September. Everyone have a great summer, when it arrives!
A note from the
Past-Pres.
Dear Friends,
I can't thank you enough for all the batik fat quarters! I have been
thinking about a couple of batik quilts for ages and also have a couple
of garment patterns that *demand* batiks! So they have a good home . .
. and are on their way to becoming finished projects!
And I hope you all saw the beautiful bag that Sharon Harris made... it
will be my constant companion to appliqué and other meetings!

Report on the June meetings
Feedback on bingo at both meetings was positive, so we will probably
make it a continuing feature of the June potluck end-of-year meetings.
Keep your directions, make a card or two now while you remember how it
works, and tack it on a bulletin board for retrieval next year! We had
multiple winners at each meeting who had their choice of a variety of
prizes including fabric, patterns, books, etc.: AM Sally Coffey,
Arlene Hoffmann, Janet Kavanaugh, Elizabeth Dalton, Wilma Hamm, Pat
Major, Melba Rumsey, Dorothy Bowler, Loretta Nelson, Diane Hascall, Cari
Adamson, and Melinda Brown; PM Sandy Cartwright, Susan Palmer, Kandi
Magana, Judy Irish, Elizabeth Dalton, Karen Lowry, Jeni Bottin, Lana
Lymburner, Dawn Coons, and Stephanie Metzger. We collected enough game
boards to make ten 12-block Comfort Quilts. A big thank you to the PM
members who took stacks of blocks to make into quilts for that project!
Winners of the "My Summer Vacation" challenge were: AM 1st Place,
Karen Lowry; 2nd Place, Elizabeth Dalton, 3rd Place, Karen Vander Stoep;
PM 1st Place, Dawn Coons; 2nd Place, Vicki Wyant; 3rd Place, Pam
Fredericksen. They received gift certificates and blue, red, and white
ribbons. All participants in the challenge received a piece of Warm &
Safe batting. Congratulations to all.
AM Treats
Help please. When she was getting ready to leave the building, Janet
Kavanaugh was unable to find the gift Sue gave her at the last meeting.
She had set it down on one of the tables. Possibly someone mistakenly
picked it up with their own things when they left. Please look around
and call Janet if you find it. She said the fabric had fish on it.

will also be taken at the July and August PM meetings. As usual, the
class fee will be $15.

Christmas Luncheon 2008
The theme for the 2008 CIQ Christmas Luncheon is going to be ³houses².
Your wall hanging or table runner theme can be a log cabin, birdhouse,
lighthouse, doghouse, a boat, gingerbread house, church etc. etc.
Remember the more items we have for the drawings the more chance you
have of winning something memorable made by one of your club members.
Sign up sheets will be sent around at the fall meeting for help with our
special holiday event.
The CIQ Luncheon will be on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Floyd
Norgaard Center in Stanwood. Mark your calendars!
Happy Quilting This Summer
Quilt Shows, Museums and Upcoming Events:
Heritage Quilt Trunk Show
On Wednesday, July 2, 1 p.m., at Cama Beach State Park some of the Cama
Quilters group will be presenting a program about quilts from the
heydays of the fishing resort. We will give an overview of quilting
from the 30's through the mid-20th century, show some examples of
reproduction quilts that were made for the park project, show vintage
quilts from our own collections, and host a question and answer period
about anything quilt-related. Since that's a first Wednesday when CIQ
members are used to meeting, we'd like to invite all of you to join us,
especially if you haven't had a chance to visit the park since its
opening on June 21. Be aware that you will be parking in a lot at the
top of the hill and will have the option of taking a shuttle bus to the
beach or walking (it's all downhill from there), so try to carpool and
allow a bit of extra time to get there. If the weather permits, we may
be meeting on the beach. If not, we'll be in the main office, next to
the gift shop near the gas pump. We hope to see you there! Contact
Pam Fredericksen if you have questions or suggestions.

The White River Valley Museum celebrates the Victorian tradition of
crazy quilting with a series of events, including the exhibit ³Crazy
Quilts: Puzzle Patches and Fanciful Embroidery² open now through
Aug. 10.
³Crazy Quilts² features a collection of 30 quilts, garments and other
items made with the crazy quilting method, most dating from 1880 to
1920. Guest curator, quilter and storyteller Anita Sheneberger who spent
more than four months traveling the back roads of Western Washington to
acquire this rare collection of quilts organize the exhibit. Regular
museum admission for the exhibit is $2 adults, $1 children and seniors.
³I have two passions in my life besides my family and faith, and they
are fabric and story. Quilts fit so naturally into these two
obsessions,² Sheneberger said.
