INTRODUCTION
To Crypto-Numerology

Is it possible that our English alphabet, the same alphabet I'm using to write this paragraph, might be a cipher for decoding information from ancient sources? Furthermore, is it possible there could be information encoded within the structure of the alphabet itself? Recently I discovered patterns within the structure of our alphabet that might suggest the answer is "yes" to both of those questions.
If I had to give a name to what I do I'd call it "cryptonumerology". The term "crypto" relates to the idea of secret writing, ciphers, and codes. "Numerology" refers to the idea of numbers having meaning beyond the simply quantitative. I use the term, cryptonumerology, to differentiate the work from the standard kind of "pop culture numerology" most people are familiar with. In a sense my work is similar to the ancient process of divination known as Gematria. Gematria, a system of assigning number values to letters is most commonly thought of in terms of the ancient Hebrew alphabet of 27 letters (22 consonants + 5 vowel sounds). In point of fact, it is also associated with the Greek. The term probably originates from the Greek word "gametria", which relates directly to the word "geometry" and to the process of surveying the land (keep this in mind when I discuss the work of Carl Munck, further on in this piece). Some readers familiar with the concept of "sacred geometry" will see a correlation here also.
Several languages incorporate this system whereby each letter is also a number. Therefore, any word or group of words from these languages has a numerical value (by tallying the numbers associated with the letters in the word or group of words) as well as having the attributes of pronunciation and definition. Why is this important? Because it is considered by some that numbers not only have quantitative values, but qualitative values as well. In this sense one might think of numbers as being resonant symbols reflecting archetypal concepts residing in what the Swiss psychologist, Carl Jung, called the collective unconscious.
Following along this line of thought I have determined there is a possibility that number is also intimately connected with the phenomenon we know as "synchronicity", another term coined by Jung. My work has further prompted me to suggest that the number "9", specifically, is intimately linked to the phenomenon of synchronicity. Some examples illustrating that idea will come further on.
Traditionally, for a number of reasons, the English alphabet has been considered the least useful as a tool of Gematria. However, my experience has led me to consider otherwise. The number 9 has turned up ubiquitously throughout the process of my work, including the fact that the number 9 is encoded in the very structure of the alphabet itself. This will be shown in a moment. Furthermore, the process has revealed the possibility that the 26 letters of our alphabet may have a unique relationship with the Mayan Tzolkin matrix of 260 units. This is the matrix which forms the basis of the Mayan Calendar. Further work on this aspect needs to be done to establish what, if any, information this might reveal.
The process I use is based on the straight alpha-numeric system of A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on throughout the alphabet, ending with Z=26. In conventional numerology, multi-digit numbers are reduced to a single digit by a process called cross adding. So, for letters with double digit values such as P=16 (P is the 16th letter in the alphabet), the number is reduced or distilled to its single digit value. In the case of P=16, for example, the single digit would be 7 (1+6=7), therefore P=7 in its reduced form. (Speaking of P=16, here is a good example of the self referencing kind of synchronicity which I find intriguing: Pi is the 16th letter of the Greek alphabet. P=16 and i= 9. By reducing the 16 to 7 and then adding it to the 9 we get 7+9=16, which brings us right back to the very place number of Pi in the Greek alphabet!) Reducing the numbers, however, is an option. I would suggest that the multi-digit numbers and their respective reduced values can each reveal different levels of meaning within the same context. In other words, the number 144 (an important gematrian number), for example, refers to the concept of "LIGHT". That's one level of meaning. On the other hand, the reduced value of 9 (1+4+4) might mean something different. In my system of gematria, the number 9, for example, relates to the idea of change or transition. This, by the way, is not a meaning I've attached arbitrarily. The meaning was deduced from a study of the results of my work and related synchronistic experiences. Some readers will notice a difference in my interpretation of the number "9" and that of traditional numerology. Traditionally, the number "9" has been thought of as the number of "completion". As noted above, I see it as representing not completion but, rather, change or transition.
EXAMPLES OF PATTERNS WITHIN THE STRUCTURE OF THE ALPHABET:
EXAMPLE 1:
This example shows how the number 9 is encoded within the structure of the alphabet itself. It is revealed by essentially folding the alphabet in half; that is, by combining the alphanumeric value of the first letter "A" with the alphanumeric value of last letter "Z", and adding them together. Do the same with each pair of letters from the opposite ends, working inward toward the center where M(13) meets N(14). Thus, [A]1+ [Z] 26 = 27. Reduced, 2+7=9. The same with B added to Y, and C added to X, and so on.
RESULTING PATTERN (each instance reduced to single digit):
A+Z=27=9, B+Y=27=9, C+X=27=9, D+W=27=9, E+V=27=9, F+U=27=9, G+T=27=9, H+S=27=9, I+R=27=9, J+Q=27=9, K+P=27=9, L+O=27=9, M+N=27=9
Some interesting notes at this point:
1) This process results in 13 combinations of letters. The number 13 is important to the whole Mayan calendar system. Interestingly, or should I say, synchronistically, the reduced alphanumeric value of the word THIRTEEN is 9! Moreover, the reduced alphanumeric value of TWENTY SIX (the other important number in the Mayan calendar matrix) is 6. Then 9x6=54, the same as the alphanumeric value of the word MAYAN which is 54 and which, of course, reduces to 9 when the two digits are cross-added! Coincidence or encoded clue?
2) The number 27 is the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet (22 consonants + 5 vowels). This may be a symbolic link between the Hebrew alphabet and the English alphabet, which might lend some justification to using the Roman/English alphabet as a tool of gematria; traditionally an unpopular idea.
3) 13 x 27 = 351, the reverse of the alphanumeric value of the name of the Aztec/Toltec god, QUETZALCOATL (153).
4) The alphanumeric value of KUKULCAN (the Mayan name for the same god) is 94 which reduces to 13 (first level reduction), a key number in the Mayan Tzolkin.
5) As an aside, I might mention that 13 x 9 = 117 = NEGATIVE DARK. Interestingly, when those digits are rearranged into 171 we have the alphanumeric value of the phrase POSITIVE LIGHT. This, of course, is a whole 'nother discussion, as they say, but at this point it's an interesting side note highlighting just one more instance of a curious alphanumeric synchronicity.

EXAMPLE 2:
Take the series of numbers, 1 thru 9.
Assign to each "number" its corresponding "word":
(1)ONE, (2)TWO, (3)THREE, (4)FOUR, (5)FIVE, (6)SIX, (7)SEVEN, (8)EIGHT, (9)NINE.
RESULTING PATTERN 1: The words divide equally into three groups catagorized by the number of letters in each word, i.e., 3-letter words, 4-letter words, 5-letter words:
Thus:
Group 1 consists of: ONE, TWO, SIX (each word has 3 letters)
Group 2 consists of: FOUR, FIVE, NINE (each word has 4 letters)
Group 3 consists of: THREE, SEVEN, EIGHT (each word has 5 letters)
RESULTING PATTERN 2: The distilled numerical value of each Group equals 9:
Group 1: 1+2+6= 9
Group 2: 4+5+9=18 or 1+8= 9
Group 3: 3+7+8=18 or 1+8= 9

EXAMPLE 3:
Assign the appropriate alpha-numeric value (reduced to single digit) to each of the english words in the series of
ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT, NINE, using A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.
For example: ONE...
O=15 or, reduced, 6 (1+5)
N=14 or, reduced, 5 (1+4)
E=5
Now, add those single digit values: 6+5+5=16 or, reduced, 7 (1+6).
Therefore, the distilled alpha-numeric value of the word "ONE" is 7.
If we run the same process on each word-form of each number, we get:
- ONE=7, TWO=4, THREE=2, FOUR=6
- FIVE=6, SIX=7, SEVEN=2, EIGHT=4
- NINE=6
RESULTING PATTERN:
Interestingly, a pattern of four (and only four numbers) appear in the entire series. They are: 2, 4, 6, and 7.
Consecutively, they appear in three sets:
Set 1: [7-4-2-6]
Set 2: [6-7-2-4]
Set 3: [6]

This is but a sample of the type of thing I'm referring to as patterns within the structure of the alphabet. The point is, it appears there may be more to the structure of the alphabet than meets the eye at first glance. My quest is to see if this hidden structure holds encoded information or if the structure is such that it can be used as a cipher for unlocking information encoded within other sources. An example illustrating this possibility is the relationship between the alphabet and the ancient Mayan calendar matrix, or grid, known as the Tzolkin. See CONVERTED MAYAN TZOLKIN
So what are we to make of all this? Are we dealing here with nothing more than interesting yet essentially meaningless coincidences? Or is there something else at work here? After all, what do we really know about the true nature of the phenomenon we call synchronicity? What is its relationship to consciousness? Who can say for certain that the ancients of this planet weren't aware of some universal principals for which modern science has no definitive explanation? The Mayans, for example, constructed one of the world's most accurate and complex calendars ever known, and it was all based on ideas our modern science would label as fairy tales and myths. The Mayan people believed the universe was, in essence, a living organism and numbers were the symbolic and metaphoric links by which we could establish a connection to the heart and soul of that organism. If they were right, and if, as I and others have suggested, synchronicity is a function of consciousness, perhaps this is part of the answer as to why number and synchronicity so often combine and merge with such apparent relevance.
Some will argue that there is too much subjectivity involved in all of this; too much, that is, for any of it to have any scientific validity. Others will counter, and rightly so, that recent developments in the very scientific field of quantum physics have left some scientists recognizing the possibility that what used to be considered "woo-woo" metaphysics might indeed have some basis in "reality". Then again, there is the eternal question, "what is reality"?
In the end, those of us who choose to pursue these questions must follow where ever our research leads us. My particular path has led me to investigate the possibility that our alphabet may hold a secret to unlocking at least a portion of the mysteries of the ancients. Some of what I have discovered is presented here in hopes that others may be inspired to join the quest for the KEY and, perhaps to discover "THE SECRET OF NINE" .
