Ed's Anglia
Ed's 1948 Anglia Project
(page and car under construction)
Updated 3/9/2003
This Anglia has been in my family since 1962. My father bought it for $50 at a gas station in Pittsburgh, Pa. after his car broke down. Unfortunately, for most of this  time, it has been rusting away under an apple tree in the backyard. The last time I touched this car was before I left for the service 25 years ago. I decided it was now or never and dug in. I also have all the front sheet metal and trunk lid. This is my first street rod.
In May of 1999, I purchased a 1976 Mustang II to use as a donor car for $300. This car was chosen since it had the most amount of re-usable parts and, after stripping it, I had a complete MII front suspension with crossmember, 302 V-8, C4 tranny and a mountain of other good stuff such as steering column, master cylinder, seats and other misc goodies. The junk man pulled the shell away with only it's 8 inch rear end. Quite a steal for $300. I later purchased a 9 inch posi unit.
This is my dad and I around 1971. We were trying to get the stock motor running and it caught fire. It was officially mine then.
October 1999 after a winch truck
pulled it out of the mud up a 75 ft hill. Thanx for for the pix, Madge
Front suspension is now in place. I narrowed the original MII crossmember 12 " and had to mount the rack tilted about 20 degrees to get clearance under the oil pan. I built a new front stub to provide the clearances needed and is designed to bolt the original inner fender panels back on after cutting for A-arm clearance. The rack is a FatMan Fabrications narrowed unit and the springs are from a 4 cylinder M II with one coil removed. The oil pan has been changed to a later model chrome dual sump unit for x-member clearance.

I plan on using the original frame rails but boxed and with a x-brace. The rear suspension is a four bar set up that I am fabricating. Coil-overs are chrome Carreras.  I narrowed the 9 inch rear end 16 inches and will use stock axles for now. I do not plan to tub the car as I am planning on a rear seat. I'm picking up tire width space by using 4 inch over size rear fenders. Yes, the driveshaft clears the brace.

The four inch oversize rear fenders are from Rod and Race Fiberglass . Tires are P275-50 Radial T/A's with blackwalls out. I made cardboard mockups of different tire sizes to find out what fit the best. Wheels are 15X8 Cragar SuperSports with a 4 3/4 offset.
