I won't be using anything that resembles the stock rocker panels. I'm going to bend up a wider version that will help make the oversize rear fenders blend in a little better as well as protecting them against stone chips.

I replace the B panels on both sides and filled the semaphore holes.

This was a good place to practice some hammerform since I had never done it before. I made templates and cut forms from hardwood to make repair panels. All this work will be hidden by an upholstery panel.

Not only does this trunk lid suffer from severe rot, some bonehead previously torched out a huge section of the support frame. I removed the outer skin so I could get at all the rust and it also will make the repairs of the inner frame a little easier. The skin is in suprisingly good shape except for the surface rust.

Many hours later, no bondo or brass. This required numerous metal patches, welding up tears in the metal and hours with the hammer and dolly. The rim of the entire opening has been replaced. You can also see my replacement grille bars in their early stages. There are 18 1/4" stainless bars each bent to match the curve of the shell. The wood and metal are only braces until I can get the mounting bars welded in the back. It took many interesting combinations of four letter words to get it to this stage.

The grille that almost wasn't. I didn't plan on trying to save this one-hole grille at first. I finally decided to give it a shot. I ran into more problems that I imagined. When I mocked up the front end, I couldn't get the '37 grille to line up right. The hood wouldn't latch or the bottom wouldn't line up with the inner skirts. I ended up making the curved incisions and adding metal you see in the picture. I also started some of the other metal work in this picture. I figured there was about 1/2 gallon of bondo on this grille when I started. It had definitely been wrecked on the passenger side before.
