Reversals By Jon Benet Ramsey Parents, 11-19-99 NBC "Dateline"
Reversals By Jon Benet Ramsey Parents- NBC Interview Reveals A Dark Side
John and Patsy Ramsey
On November 19, 1999 NBC's "Dateline" television show aired an interview with the parents of Jon Benet Ramsey.  The Ramsey parents wanted to publicize a new book that they had just agreed to write for Thomas Nelson Publishing, a Nashville, Tennessee company which is the largest publisher of Bibles and inspirational books in the English language.  The book will explain how their faith in God sustained them during the tragedy of losing their daughter and afterwards when accusations were made against them.  The interviewer was Dan Miller, a tall, easy going reporter with a deep voice who works at WSMV, an NBC affiliate in Nashville.  The district attorney in Boulder, Colorado had earlier announced that the grand jury had indicted no one after a lengthy investigation.  The governor of Colorado had also declined to appoint a special prosecutor in the case.  The Ramseys had two conditions for the interview.  It would only last fifteen minutes and there would be no discussion of the evening when Jon Benet died.  The interview ran a little longer than planned.  "Dateline" aired an edited version of the interview.

Comments and opinions are those of this author and may or may not accurately represent the true thoughts of the speakers.
    Excerpts include:
John Ramsey wanted the justice system to work so he and his wife tried not to speak out.
The first reference in reverse to a means of suffocation.
Patsy Ramsey's reversal indicates their new book has been ghost written.
Patsy Ramsey's reversal indicates concern over their apparent declining finances.
John Ramsey's reversals about getting a cash boost (lawsuit against Star tabloid probably).
John Ramsey feels the media will portray himself and his wife as the devil.
John Ramsey's reversals show a concern not to release new details about the case during his interview.
Patsy Ramsey does not like the ethics of tabloid photographers and likes to turn the tables on them.
Forward dialogue by interviewer Dan Miller and Ramsey parents in an important segment which contains separate reversals on the following topics:
-Dan Miller challenges the Ramseys in reverse to tell what they know.
-Patsy Ramsey explains how someone with necrophilia behaves when no corpse is at hand.
-John Ramsey describes how Jon Benet may have met her fate.
-Patsy Ramsey wonders whether John would dare to be seen with her disguised as a blonde.
-John Ramsey questions why Patsy's voice seems so glad talking about him being seen with an apparent blonde.
John Ramsey makes insincere statements designed to spur on sales of their upcoming book.
Patsey Ramsey's reversal shows confidence that she and her husband will avoid future prosecution.
John Ramsey's reversals show they were consumed with their daughter's death, dealt with son Burke gingerly, and refers to an unidentified "nasty offender."
The Ramseys talk about how they were affected by the tabloid media coverage.
John Ramsey makes it clear he does not feel criminally liable for his daughter's death.
John Ramsey's reversal gives Dan Miller a compliment for his interviewing skills; Miller can't be finessed.
Patsy Ramsey's reversal speaks of a female, possibly another adult female, who may have been involved in the death and who may be scared by what her deviance has wrought.

John Ramsey:  "[We've, uh, been tried to be quiet, tried not to speak out.]"

Quiet keeps our dark sky out.  Heed the dark, then - love you.     dark.ra

Comment:  It is not clear who "you" refers to here.

John Ramsey:  "There was certainly over the last two and one-half years lots and lots of , uh, allegations and accusations that have been made against us and our family that [uh, we, we felt, uh, certainly strained not to respond to but, um, want to.]"
                                                                                                                sealers.ra
We just know, messed up with an officer's on the air sealers, must love you if you ask.

Comment:  Remember this reference to "air sealers" when reversals below discuss how Jon Benet's air supply was cut off.  Did the police see but not recognize the importance of evidence of how Jon Benet was inadvertently suffocated?  It is unclear who the "you" mentioned here refers to.  I think it refers to an adult female who may not necessarily be Patsy Ramsey.

Patsy Ramsey:  "[This is probably as much] therapeutic [writing as it is anything else.]"

Come seal the box, they said  //  Sly and I seen it, say it isn't meteor.  sly.ra

Comment:  The Ramseys' book has apparently already been ghost written.  Patsy has seen it.  She thinks it will be good for their public relations (sly), although it is not a literary masterpiece (isn't meteor).

Patsy Ramsey:  "[We've had to harbor a lot, we've had to shoulder a lot, we have a lot to tell.]"

Why is it dollar value?  Dollar lost its value.  Doll-ar lost val-ue.    dollar.ra

Comment:  The Ramseys have apparently incurred high legal expenses to keep the prosecutors at bay.  As shown below in other reversals, they look forward to obtaining money from two sources.

John Ramsey:  "We really have [two objectives, I think, in our lives going forward].  One is to try to, uh, [recapture the good name of our family to the degree we can and] we, we are still, [uh, very focused on, on trying to help] [and try to find the killer of our daughter]."

The wolf will excel on it and, making the best of it, cash boost  //  And I ask you bear with us, with this new man for whom we had jugulars  //  Wife in arson not, not's above fear but  //  Daughter will lickin' off the arsenic.                    cash.ra

Comment:  John Ramsey's inner, driving force (his wolf) expects to obtain money by suing the Star tabloid for a front page headline that Jon Benet was killed by her ten year old brother Burke.  There was no evidence to support such a charge and the district attorney has exonerated Burke.  John Ramsey feels like he and his lawyers have the publisher of the Star by the jugular veins.  Recall the term "going for the jugular."  The lawsuit was recently filed and I suspect that John Ramsey alone filed on behalf of Burke.  If so, this might explain the "wife in arson not" since Patsy Ramsey may not want to be involved in the legal process.  Jon Benet's death, in a strange twist, may now serve to bolster the family's situation (lickin' off the arsenic).

Dan Miller:  "Do you anticipate there'll be new information that people have no idea about?"

John Ramsey:  "[Well, I think there'll be lots new information] because we have been created in the media as someone we aren't.

In the chamber for you install, we be devil.         devil.ra

Comment:  The question asked related to the contents of the Ramseys' upcoming book.  The reversal in the answer refers to John Ramsey's concern that the media portrays him and his wife as the devil.

Dan Miller:  "New information about the case?"

John Ramsey:  "[Well, I don't know.]  [There's been so much information that's been leaked] [and made public] [and it's in the public.  Uh, some of it's correct; some of it's not correct.]"

One would gallow  //  He'll nixed in the chamber for the show must nips it  //
He'll block gambit  //  Error counts in the one with sky works, give 'em a suck, he'll
block the Nixon.                                                     Nixon.ra

Comment:  Although the question asked apparently referred to contents of the upcoming Ramsey book, John Ramsey's reversals are concerned with inadvertently releasing new details about the case during his television interview.  As explained during the introduction to the Ramsey segment on "Dateline," the interview conditions included that there would be no discussion of the evening when Jon Benet died.  Is John Ramsey concerned that one inadvertent disclosure could lead to the gallows?  I think the pronoun "he,"  used above repeatedly, refers to the Ramseys' attorney.  The attorney can stop (nix) the interview in the studio (chamber) because the show agreed to cut out (must nips it) any reference to the evening when the child died.  The attorney will block any trick (gambit) used to go into forbidden subject matter.  The benefits of the interview for the Ramseys to hype their book and improve their image are worth it so let NBC do it (give 'em a suck).  The potential problem for the Ramseys involves what gets broadcast nationally via satellite (error counts in the one with sky works).  The attorney can get an injunction, if needed, to prevent any dirty tricks by NBC (he'll block the Nixon).  I suspect the Ramseys had their attorney with them when they were being interviewed.

Dan Miller:  "I read somewhere where you're documenting some of the harassment in Atlanta by taking pictures, of the photographers?"

Patsy Ramsey:  "[They, they point these cameras at us but they don't like it very much when we point one back.]  [Now they just can't stand that.]

I had no help, you must remember it was hell on ethics side of them makes it milk head ethic.  //  I envy it, makes a good one.                         ethics.ra

Comment:  Note that the stuttered "They, they" was not accidental but necessary to form the word "ethics" at the end of the reversal.  Stuttered words and interjections like "uh" are often needed to form reversals.

Note:  Due to the length of the following dialogue, the forward speech is presented altogether under the file forward.ra.  The reversals are presented separately as five files.
                                           forward.ra
Dan Miller:  "[How often does it happen that you're rec]og[nized in public]?  [And do you ever find yourself wearing disguises or making your]self so you're not recognized?"

Hell we're eating and the fat is in the fire  //  Welcome the sound  //  Seeking bruises, the acts are near you, closer enough for without using etiquette.     bruises.ra

John Ramsey:  "No,"...

Patsy Ramsey:  "No."

John Ramsey:  "Uh, we are recognized, uh -"

Patsy Ramsey:  "[Probably at least weekly, sometimes daily depends on, you know, the circumstance-]
                                                                                          smacks.ra
Smacks 'em personally.  Most necrophiliads denied must, feel you feel that, feel the law.

John Ramsey:  "[We did discuss wearing], [Patsy wearing a blonde] [wig once but then thought, well that would be great, they'll] they'll see me with the blonde -"

Your own sex that did you.  //  When all bring air, we sat  //  Block the air, be battle on make-up so I don't care.                                  air.ra

Patsy Ramsey:  "[Right, he's with the b]londe.

    But does he dare?          dare.ra

John Ramsey:  "[We know where that'll go.]"

    Why glad are you?         glad.ra

Comments:  The reversals from some of interviewer Dan Miller's earlier comments and questions prompted some of the previous Ramsey reversals but these were not significant enough for me to document above.  I did document Miller's reversals in this dialogue, however, since it was his reversals which, in my opinion, caused the Ramseys to spill the beans regarding events surrounding the death of their daughter.  "Hell we're eating and the fat is in the fire" throws down the challenge.  The rest of Miller's reversals can be re-stated in normal conversational English as:  You were physically close enough to your daughter to have heard the sounds of the acts, including bruising, inflicted upon her and could have intervened in your own house without breaching any etiquette.  Reverse speech is a two way conversation and the Ramseys, on a subconscious level,  felt compelled to respond to this.  Patsy Ramsey makes a startling admission in a matter of fact fashion when she discusses necrophilia.  A person who exhibits necrophilia has an erotic attraction to corpses.  Why does Patsy state that most people with necrophilia who are "denied" (can't have sex with a real corpse) will personally smack the object of their affection in order to ensure that this object feels the exercise of deadly power over them?  I think she is explaining what happened to Jon Benet.  John Ramsey adds to the explanation when he recites that they all brought air and sat down.  The "all" is not specified and may include someone in addition to the parents and Jon Benet.  Jon Benet's air supply was blocked or cut off, apparently resulting in her suffocation.  She apparently did not like how she was being made up and fought it ("be battle on make-up").  John Ramsey was concentrating on something else and did not care about this.  How was the air cut off?  An earlier reversal referred to "air sealers."  One low tech way to do this would be to use plastic bags.  This is pure speculation but some people seeking to heighten their orgasms have caused themselves to come close to death by voluntarily cutting off their air supply with plastic bags as they approach orgasm.  This is a very dangerous practice and risks death.  By the time that the participants had recovered from their near asphyxiation, Jon Benet may have been dead.  John Ramsey's comment "Your own sex that did you" may indicate that Jon Benet was molested by a female.  If this female was not her own mother, who could it be?  One of Patsy Ramsey's reversals below gives a possible hint.  My guess is that this other possible participant might be what is referred to as a "dominatrix."  A dominatrix is a woman who is willingly obeyed (and even paid) by her male and/or female submissives.  They find it erotically or emotionally fulfilling to be bossed around and degraded.  The first two reversals on this site, dark.ra and sealers.ra contain reversals which might be consistent with what a submissive would feel about his dominatrix:  ..."Heed the dark, then- love you" and "must love you if you ask."
I view John Ramsey's reversal "Why glad are you?" as questioning his wife's tone of voice when she said "Right, he's with the blonde."  Her tone of voice is perhaps a bit too jocular for the discussion of what is a somber subject in general.

John Ramsey:  "When we are out in public, [anyone who has ever stopped us], uh, and said 'Gee, aren't you, don't I know you, aren't you the Ramseys, and aren't you Jon Benet's'-usually they say- 'aren't you Jon Benet's parents or aren't you Jon Benet's Dad?'  We'll say 'yes.'  Every time, it's been an outpouring of compassion [and caring and sympathy].  And that's been really uplifting for us."
                                                                                                    raking.ra
Said thoughts are rising, you don't mean it.  //  Keep them listening, you're raking it.

Comments:  John Ramsey is insincere.  He thinks his words here will help rake in money from sales of their upcoming book and public goodwill for the Ramsey parents.

Patsy Ramsey:  "We left the city to bury our child and we came back to the city for our other child to finish school [and to help any way we could to find the killer of our daughter]."
                                                                                          win.ra
Her daughter, we're lickin' off the drug and we'll win it, - why losing it?

Comment:  Patsy Ramsey feels confident now that she and her husband will avoid future prosecution.  However, she doesn't understand why the battle has been so hard so far.

John Ramsey:  "[When you've lost a child] nothing else matters.  You really don't want to live.  You're, you're as, as, uh, rendered as low [as you could possibly be without] dying.  [And our focus] was on laying Jon Benet to rest properly and that's really all that mattered, [during that period of time]."

Why ask?  It's all we knew.  //  Quiet the wee, deal the soft digit.  //  Set wolf on it.  //  Nasty offender.                                   offender.ra

Comment:  Interviewer Dan Miller had just politely commented that the Ramsey parents were not seen by the public as acting as one would expect grieving parents to act.  The first reversal makes it clear that the Ramseys were really consumed by the death of their daughter.  The second reversal may refer to gingerly dealing with Jon Benet's surviving brother, Burke, who was ten years old at the time.  Setting one's wolf on it is a perfect metaphor for focusing one's attention on something.  Who is the nasty offender?

Note:  This dialogue is short enough so the forward speech and all reversals are in one sound file, point.ra.
Dan Miller:  "What's it like to go through a grocery store and see the tabloid magazines, with pictures of Jon Benet and the speculation and, and the accusations for one that your son Burke did this?"

John Ramsey:  "Nonsense."

Dan Miller:  "What do you, do you look at these things?"

John Ramsey:  "[Well, you can't help but not see them]-"

But it's not the point, I feel.          point.ra

Patsy Ramsey:  "[Right there in front of you]."
    We're not married there.

John Ramsey:  "It's, [it's tragic]."
    It hurts it.

Comment:  Patsy is correct. The tabloids reported the couple were about to split, were making deals against each other with the district attorney, etc., everything contrary to what a happily married couple would do.

Dan Miller:  "Would you be surprised if you were charged in this case?  Would that be a, would that blind side you?"

John Ramsey:  "[Would be, it'd be] a travesty of justice, absolutely.

    It'd be evil.         evil.ra

Comment:  Although John Ramsey is concerned about inadvertently revealing facts about the case, he does not feel guilty in a criminal sense for his daughter's death.

Dan Miller:  "If this case is never solved, will it fade away?"

John Ramsey:  "Our intent's not to let it fade away.  [We intend for it to be solved.]"

Law see there's no finessing at you.       finesse.ra

Comment:  John Ramsey realizes that Dan Miller has a way of asking questions that get to the heart of the matter.  Dan Miller will not be put off but does it in a non-offensive way.

Patsy Ramsey:  "And if the publicity from this book keeps it hot, keeps it on the, the minds and in the forefront of the public, [great- because somewhere out there is a killer and we're gonna find out who that is]."
                                                                                                 illness.ra
Say, that'd be high now for a unit.  Her lick is it, her hit by her illness, suck it, scare.

Comment:  Although some reversals by a person refer to himself/herself in the third person singular, such a reference obviously can refer to a third person.  If Patsy Ramsey is not into necrophilia, this reversal would support my theory about a possible dominatrix orchestrating events that inadvertently led to Jon Benet's death.  This woman may need psychiatric care to deal with her problems now.
