Reverse Speech Analysis Of Songs Sung By Shania Twain
Shania Twain- Country vocalist and song writer
Shania Twain photo
Shania Twain has it all- a gifted singing voice, the talent to write vast numbers of songs whose lyrics tell a story that people want to hear, and the photogenic beauty that keeps all eyes on her performance.  Add to that her partnership with her husband and gifted producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, and you have a combination that has enabled her to win a plethora of country music awards and sell millions of CD's.  Her Come On Over CD, released in October 1997, has already sold over nine million copies.  One song from that album, "You're Still The One," crossed over from country music into the mainstream in a similar manner that Ray Charles crossed musical boundaries with his rendition of "I Can't Stop Loving You" back in the 1960's.
Shania's songs have meaning for her and this shows in her reversals.  Comments below about the meaning of the reversals are the author's opinion and may or may not accurately reflect what is deep within Shania's soul.
Clicking on the underlined names of Shania's songs below will take you to a list of reversals found in each song.  To play each reversal, click on the file name for that reversal which will end with the extension .ra.  If you minimize your Real Player at the bottom of your screen, you can follow the forward and reverse speech as you listen.  The forward speech is played first and the brackets in the transcript show where the speech reversals occur.  Then the reversal is played three times at progressively slower speeds.  The reversal language is shown in bold type below the forward language.  Finally, the section of forward speech containing the reversal is played and immediately followed by the reversal, all at normal speed.

Look how far we've come my baby,                                                                                          We knew we'd get there someday.  They said, "I bet they'll never make it."
You're still the one I run to,
You're still the one I kiss goodnight,

[Look how far we've come my baby]

And if I marked you off, I could          if.ra
Comment:  Shania may be thinking about who she could have a relationship with if she were not married.

[We knew we'd get there someday.  They said,] "I bet they'll never make it."

Bless him, it must have tagged you, burn you.           bless.ra
Comment:  Shania really appreciates how her husband, who is significantly older than she is, stayed with her and ignored the negative comments that must have hurt his feelings.

[You're still the one I run to,]

Whose love I know who erase it.          erase.ra
Comment:  Has someone else stolen Shania's heart?

[You're still the one I kiss goodnight.]

I'm hooked, safe, I know who erase it.          hooked.ra
Comment:  Shania is married and this gives her safety from men who might otherwise pursue her if she were still single.

(second song)
"If You Wanna Touch Her, Ask!" (from the Come On Over CD) has reversals for each of these lyrics.  Click on the lyric you want to hear reversed:

Let me let you in on a secret,
If you're looking for a place in her heart, it ain't gonna happen overnight.
First you gotta learn to listen, to understand her deepest thoughts.
You must start from the heart, and then if you wanna touch her,
A little physical attraction, romantic old-fashioned charm,
If you wanna get to know her,
...No, it ain't gonna happen.

.
[Let me let you in on a secret.]

If he's horny, it's the limp file.          limp.ra
Comment:  As men get older, many experience what Bob Dole calls "erectile dysfunction" and may need to turn to Viagra or other products.

..
[If you're looking for a place in h]er heart, it ain't gonna happen overnight.

    He's here fu*k me totally fake.          totally.ra
Comment:  Shania may not be satisfied with the experience.

...
First you gotta [learn to listen, to understand her deepest thoughts].

Hearts beat but answer not, let's say losing her a little          losing.ra
Comment:  Is Shania drifting away a little due to her unmet needs?

....
You must start [from the heart, and then if you wanna touch her,]

It's just an all week fake, hand me hell hammer          hell.ra
Comment:  Faking satisfaction all week long may be hell for Shania.  There is an anvil metaphor below that seems related to this hammer metaphor.  Hammer and anvil are used together to forge and strengthen a tool or product.  Maybe Shania wants to re-build her relationship.

.....
[A little physical attraction, romantic old-fas]hioned charm,

Sad floor, get the anvil.  I was gonna ask the Lord, "Is it for little?"     little.ra
Comment:  The floor may be a metaphor for the base or underpinnings of a relationship.  Maybe Shania wants to strengthen the base of her relationship.  She may have been praying for guidance as to how important sex should be in her life.

......
I[f you wanna get to know her],

No one must fake it all week.          fake.ra
Comment:  Shania believes no one should have to feign satisfaction about intimate matters.

.......
 ...No, it ain't [gonna happen].

    If I had a life.          life.ra
Comment:  Many people feel so pressured or stressed by their daily responsibilities that they use terms like "I have no life."

(third song)
"Man!  I Feel Like A Woman!" (from the Come On Over CD) has reversals for each of these lyrics.  Click on the lyric you want to hear reversed:

I'm feeling alright, gonna let it all hang out,
No inhibitions- make no conditions, get a little outta line,
The best thing about being a woman,
Oh, oh, oh, I wanna be free- yeah to feel the way I feel,
The girls need a break- tonight we're gonna take, the chance to get out on the town.

........
I'm [feeling alright, gonna let it all hang ou]t

    I get harder than wood, I'm horny, fu*k        harder.ra
Comment:  Shania has a strong sex drive.

.........
No [inhibitions- make no conditions, get a little] outta line

A little leg, she shaved the golden gam, she shaved the leg          leg.ra
Comment:  "Gam" is slang for a woman's leg and is usually used with complimentary adjectives, e.g. gorgeous gams.  When Shania goes out on the town, she wants to look her best and apparently shaves her legs.

..........
[The best thing about being a woman]

    I'm horny but I being sad.          sad.ra

...........
Oh, oh, [oh, I wanna be free- yeah to feel the way I feel]

If I had a womanly faith, leave him alone          faith.ra
Comment:  It is unclear who "him" refers to.  Possible guesses include whoever may have stolen her heart (see speculation under "You're Still The One" song reversals above) or her husband.

............
[The girls need a break- tonight we're gonna take, the chance to get out on the town]

I asked about an egg get smashed against an old Alladin.  I care but he's heard
                                                                                           egg.ra
Comment:  Speculation here but this sounds to me like a reference to a pregnancy that was terminated.  Alladin is an unclear metaphor but if it refers here to a male person, I would wonder if Shania may have had a pregnancy by an old boyfriend terminated somehow.
