Artist Robert Conrad Ledoux will exhibit a body of artwork inspired by his study and research in the field of Cognitive Neuroscience at the Nest Art Factory in Bridgeport. Over the past three years, Ledoux has been working on this new paradigm for creative art based on the science of the visual pathways in our brains.
“Understanding of the complex Retinal, Geniculate, and Cortical Systems for processing visual stimuli through scientific research in the fields of Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, and Artificial Intelligence has been accelerating over the past 50 years. Much of this research has focused on different aspects of the artistic creative process. My paintings involve interpretations and visualizations of these very simple and basic processes of brain cells & neurons specialized for vision. ”
The work is organized in two groups. The first consists of smaller studies which explore the specific subsystems of color cone cells in the retina; opponent color cells in the lateral geniculate nuclius; and, the complex of layers of special color, shape, and orientation neurons in the visual cortex. The second group of larger acrylic paintings orchestrate these elements into coherent expressions that are in sympathy with the way our minds see. The strength of the stimuli used in this way is very strong and colorful.
The exhibit will run from November 1 - 30, 2007 at the Nest Art Factory, 1341 Railroad Avenue, Bridgeport; in the third floor gallery. Hours are from 10:00 AM to 4:00PM throughout the month including Saturday and Sunday. An artist’s reception will be held on Friday, November 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
