I started collecting O-gauge trains after taking a cross-country trip on Amtrak during the Summer of '98.  Later that Fall, I saw the Amtrak Genesis passenger set, made by Mike's Electric Trains (MTH), at a local toy show & sale.  I'd previously dabbled in HO & N scales, but I just had to have this set!!  The toy train bug had bitten.

Next was a New York Central Hudson (4-6-4) freight set found in a nearby hobby shop.  Then Christmas announced the arrival of the K-Line Coca-Cola bears handcar and a pair of MTH Southern Railway PA's with matching streamliner cars followed.

Summer brought the Chesapeake & Ohio F-units (ABA) & matching blue and gold Madison cars to our home.  And then Christmas 2000 found the Norfolk & Western J ("Northern" 4-8-4) passenger set under the tree.  Where will it ever end?!?!?

For now, all this equipment is taking turns on a double-oval plywood tabletop layout.  Certainly not very original but it's fun nonetheless.  But it's time to build a more exciting and realistic layout.

I am still in the planning stages for a new around-the-walls-style layout that includes some local prototype features: the Alexandria, Virginia station and yards; Lake Accotink trestle; the Fairfax County countryside; and, finally, the Manassas "Y" leading to Front Royal and Charlottesville.  Tall order, eh?
