Ok, here we are with phase two. The table is finally complete: carpentry, track, and wiring. Scenery is presentable enough to display at a recent train show. The buildings are foam core board, painted by my wife. She did a pretty darn good job, don't you think? Not exactly how I imagined it, but I learned at a certain point ( when she told me to stop micro-managing "her" project! ) to just let go and allow her to do her thing.
Check out the faux-stone work on the bridge and adjoining wall. And the Coca-Cola distributor with faded lettering 'Akes and Payne Medical Supply' above. And every train engineer and alert passenger gets a surprise when they spy the Lego dinosaur guarding the portal in the end view!
The track was mounted on cork roadbed since I felt it just looked better. My buddy David V cut and stained the extra ties, six per 10" section. ( He also provided materials and labor for the upper loop, and refreshments which delayed the project significantly ;-] ) The ties made a big difference even though they differ in material and color than the standard black metal ties.
The final shot shows the module at the Beltsville Day festival, May 18 2003.
