Welcome to the 2nd Michigan Cavalry Homepage. This page is dedicated to the 2nd Michigan Cavalry. Much of the information and text is taken from a book called "A Hundred Battles in the West". The book was about the history of the 2nd Michigan. It was written by Civil War veteran M.P. Thatcher. He was an officer in company "B" of the 2nd Michigan Cavalry at the rank of captain during the Civil War. His book was dedicated to the Grand Army of the Republic. This organization was composed of Union veterans who desired to preserve the memory of those who fought for the Union during the Civil War. The book was published and copyrighted in 1884. Thatcher also had other veterans write their own accounts for the book. The copy of the book I have was previously owned by Civil War veteran Corporal Diogenes Mallory of company "K" of the 2nd Michigan cavalry.
