New members frequently ask what sort of personal equipment they should have. While this will vary based on activity, a basic list is included below
Day Trip Equipment List
*Moisture wicking shirt
*Nylon hiking shorts or pants
*Underware (wicking materials preferred)
*Boots
*Hiking Socks and sock liners
*2-4 liters of water
*One insulating layer (poly-pro,etc).
*Rain gear
*Personal first aid kit (band aids, moleskin, etc.)
*sunscreen
*hat
Cold Weather, add the following to Day Trip List
*Heavier insulating layer
*Insulating Gloves
*Waterproof glove shell
*Insulating hat
*If wet cold, add waterproof pants if not in rain gear above
*Spare socks and liners
*Day pack to hold layers that are removed while working
*If in snow, add gaiters (to keep snow out of your boots), a ground pad
(to sit on without loosing body heat to the ground if you are injured), and a space blanket
The test for your cold weather clothes is to stand around nearly motionless for one half hour in the coldest eather expected. You should be able to remain warm.
