Baby Sweater Hat Booties
Baby Sweater, Hat & Booties
This pattern uses baby sport yarn
 but was added here due to several requests.
Sorry to the 4 ply worsted weight yarn users, but this is ALMOST
as good as worsted weight!!
Baby Sweater Set
0-6 months
6-12 months
(directions in parenthesis)

Soft Baby Sport Yarn (Model used “Caron Baby Soft Sport”)
Approximately 2oz. Solid Color (SC) and 3 oz. Variegated Color (VC) will make sweater, hat and booties.
D hook
8” of 1/8” ribbon (if desired)
“V” stitch (dc, chain 1, dc, in indicated stitch or space).
Increase (work a V stitch in space between 2 existing V stitches. from row below).
Weave all ends in as work progresses. (Weave a length in under stitches of matching color, then turn and weave back for approximately 2 “. This really helps secure ends from coming out in the wash.)

Sweater:
Body:
Row 1: With SC, chain 41 (51). Work 1 hdc in 3rd chain from hook. Work 1 hdc in each stitch across.
(40 sts)
Row 2: Chain 2 (this counts as 1st hdc here and throughout),work 1 hdc in each of next 2 stitches,* work 2 hdc stitches in next stitch, work 1 hdc in each of next 3 stitches.* Repeat across. Turn. (50 sts)
Row 3: Chain 2. Work 1 hdc in each of next 3 stitches. *Work 2 hdc in next st., work 1 hdc in each of next 4 stitches.* (60 sts)
Repeat across. Turn.
Row 4: Chain 3, 1 dc in next st. *”V” stitch in next stitch, skip 1 stitch, “V” stitch in next stitch*.
Repeat across ending with 1 dc in each of last 2 stitches. 28 “V” stitches
(40 “V” stitches).
Place a marker as follows: between the 4th & 5th “V” st. (6th & 7th), this is right front; between the 9th & 10th “V” st. (13th & 14th), this is right sleeve; between the 19th & 20th “V” st. (27th & 28th), (back); between the 24th & 25th V st. (34th & 35th), left sleeve; remaining 4 “V” stitches (6 “V” st.) are left front.
Rows 5: Chain 3, work 1 dc in next st. Work 1 V st in each V st adding increases as follows in each row:
Increase x 2 in right front
Increase x 1 for right sleeve
Increase x 2 in back (x3) in back
Increase x 1 in left sleeve
Increase x 2 for left front
Work 1 dc in each of last 2 stitches
Row 6: Chain 3, work 1 dc in next st. Work 1 V st in each V st adding increases as follows in each row:
Increase x 1 in right front
Increase x 2 for right sleeve
Increase x 2 in back (x3)
Increase x 2 in left sleeve
Increase x 1 for left front
Work 1 dc in each of last 2 stitches
Row 7: Chain 2. Work 1 hdc in each of first 2 stitches. Work 2 hdc in chain 1 space of each V st. across. Work I hdc in each of last 2 stitches. Fasten off SC.
Row 8: Join VC. Chain 3, 1 dc in next st. Work 1 “V” stitch in next stitch. *Skip 1 stitch. Work “V” stitch in next st.* Repeat x 5 [7 “V” stitches for right front])(x9, 11”V” st. for right front). Skip 16 stitches, work “V” stitch in next st. *Skip next st. Work “V” stitch in next st.* Repeat x 12 [ 14 “V” stitches for back] ( Repeat x 18, 20 V sts. for back). Skip 16 stitches, work “V” stitch in next st. *Skip next st. Work 1 “V” stitch in next stitch.* Repeat x 5 [7 “V” stitches for left front] ( Repeat x 9 , 11 V sts. for left front). Work 1 dc in each of remaining 2 stitches.
Row 9: Chain 3, 1 dc in next stitch. Work 1 "V" stitch in the center of each "V" stitch to the underarm. Work 1"V" stitch in underarm space. Work 1 "V" stitch in each "V" stitch around back to next underarm. Work 1"V" stitch in underarm space. Work 1 "V" stitch in each "V" stitch, work 1 dc in each of last 2 stitches.
Rows 10 - 19: Work even (1 dc in each of first 2 stitches, “V” st. in each “V” st. 1 dc in each of last 2 stitches) Finish off after row 19.
Sleeves:
Row 1: Join VC with slip stitch at underarm. Chain 2, (1st hdc ). Working around sleeve opening, work 19 more hdc.
Row 2: Chain 4, dc in same st. *Skip 1 st. Work “V” stitch in next stitch. Repeat around [10 V stitches]
Row 3 - 7: Work even. Finish off.
Row 8: Join SC. Chain 2, work 2 hdc stitches in center space of each “V” stitch around.
Row 9: Chain 2, work 1 hdc in each stitch around. Finish off.
Bottom Trim:
With SC and right side facing you (holding sweater upside down), join with slip stitch at right corner of bottom edge. Chain 2, work 1 hdc in same space. *Work 2 hdc in each chain 1 space across*. Finish off and weave in ends.
Neckline Trim:
With VC, chain 50, join with hdc around first stitch at right neck edge. *Chain 2, skip 1 stitch, and work 1 hdc around next stitch*. Repeat across, ending with another chain 50. Weave ends back into chain stitches.
Center Tie:
With VC, chain 40, attach to sweater at top of VC body. Weave ends back into chain stitches. Repeat for second side.

Hat:
Round 1: With VC, chain 4, join to make a circle. Chain 2; work 11 more hdc in circle. Join to top of chain 2. [12]
Round 2: Chain 2, *work 2 hdc in each stitch around*. Repeat around. Join to top of chain 2. [24]
Round 3: Chain 2, *work 2 hdc in next st. work 1 hdc in next stitch*. Repeat around. Join to top of chain 2. [36]
Round 4: Chain 2, *work 2 hdc in next st. work 1 hdc in each of next two stitches*. Repeat around. Join to top of chain 2. [48] For smaller size skip to row 6.
Round 5: Chain 2, *work 2 hdc in next st. work 1 hdc in each of next three stitches*. Repeat around. Join to top of chain 2. [60]
Round 6: Chain 2, work even adding 4 hdc increases evenly spaced around. Join to top of chain 2.
Round 6(7)-14: Work even.
Hat Cuff: Join SC, chain 3. Work 1 front post stitch around each half-double crochet stitch from row below. Work even. Join with slip stitch. Chain 3, turn. Repeat this row, 1 more time. Fold these rows up and tack in place with matching yarn if necessary.

Booties (make 2):
Row 1: With SC, chain 16. Work 1 hdc in 3rd chain from hook and in each stitch  across. (15hdc) Chain 2 and turn.
Row 2-9: Work even. Finish off.
Fold piece in half lengthwise. Working through both thicknesses, slip stitch together over 7 stitches; continue working 1sc in each stitch along each side of the opening and 1 sc in center back [19 sc]. Join with slip stitch. Finish off. Turn inside out. Sew up back seam. Using a double thickness of matching yarn, work a running stitch through toe end and pull tightly together. Knot securely. Turn piece right side out.
Row 10: Join VC with slip stitch in center front. Chain 4. Work 1dc in same space. Skip 1 st. Work 1 “V” stitch in every other stitch around. Join to 3rd chain of first chain 4. Chain 4.
Row 11: Work 1dc in same space. Work 1 V stitch in each V stitch around, plus 1 “V” stitch in center back between 2 “V” stitches. Join to 3rd chain of first chain 4.
Fasten off and secure all ends.
Bow Trim: With VC, chain 50. Trim ends neatly. Weave chain through last SC row and tie in a bow. (If desired, an 8” length of 1/8” ribbon may be used instead of a crocheted chain.)
