Seasonal Towel and Hanger
A Towel For All Seasons
Materials:
One 2” hair elastic
Worsted weight yarn – cotton for the towel, acrylic or cotton for the hanger, trim and leaves
1 small button
H “hook”
Weave in all ends as you work.

Hanger:
1. Join yarn around the elastic with a slip stitch. Chain 2; fill elastic with half-double crochet (approximately. 30 stitches). Join with slip stitch to top of 1st half-double crochet.
2. Chain 2. Work 1 half-double crochet in each of the next 6 stitches.
3-8. Repeat row 2.
9.    Decrease over first 2 stitches. 1 half-double crochet in next stitch. Decrease over last 2 stitches.

Fold tab to the back. Sew button over the center of rows 8 & 9. Use the space between the 3rd & 4th stitches of row 2 as a buttonhole.

Leaves:
1. Holding hanger with front facing you, join green at the 6:00 position. Chain 3. Work 1 double crochet in each of the next 4 stitches.
2.    Chain 3 and turn. Work 1 double crochet in each of the next 2 stitches; decrease double crochet over the next 2 stitches.
3. Chain 2. Decrease half-double crochet over the 1st & 2nd stitches. Half-double crochet over last stitch. Fasten off.
4. Join green in next stitch toward the top. Repeat directions for the first leaf.

Towel:
1. Chain 45. Work 1double crochet in 4th chain from hook. Work 1 double crochet in each remaining stitch across.
2. Chain 3 (counts as 1st double crochet here and throughout). Work 1 double crochet in each of next 3 stitches. Skip 2 stitches. *Work 7 double crochet in next stitch. Skip 2 stitches. Work 1 double crochet in each of the next 5 stitches.* Repeat across ending with 1 double crochet in each of last 4 stitches.
3-15.    Chain 3 (counts as 1st double crochet here and throughout). Work 1 double crochet in each of next 3 stitches. *Work 1 large shell (7 double crochet in indicated stitch or space) in center stitch of shell below. Work 1 double crochet in each of next 5 stitches.* Repeat across ending with 1 double crochet in each of last 4 stitches.

Towel Trim:
    Working on the foundation chain end, with right side facing you, attach contrasting color yarn with single crochet between 1st & 2nd stitches. Chain 3; work 1 double crochet in side of 1st single crochet.
*Skip 2 stitches, single crochet between next 2 stitches. Work chain 3, 1 double crochet in side of this single crochet.* Repeat across, ending with a double crochet in side of last single crochet.

Gather the top edge together. Tuck the towel through the hanger from back to front. Arrange the contrasting color edge to resemble floral rosette.

Make as many towels as your holiday and seasonal needs require. Use the contrasting color trim as the key to the season or holiday. For example, a Christmas variegated towel with a red contrasting color trim for a Christmas theme. Perhaps a pastel color towel with a brighter shade of the same color for an Easter theme. Or try a Red, White and Blue variegated trim on a white towel for the patriotic holidays. Use your imagination and have fun.
