Open-top Preemie Cap with the Bushy Stitch
This is a great Cap for use in the hospital nursery as the top is open. This allows for any wires (monitors) that may be placed on the baby’s head to pass through the cap’s opening and still allow the baby to wear the cap comfortably.
Materials:
Size H hook
2 or 3 ply yarn
Chain 35 loosely.
Row 1: in back humps of chain, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, *ch 1,skip a st, hdc* across. 16 spaces
Row 2: ch 1, turn; sc in each hdc and ch across. 34 sc
Row 3: ch 3, turn; [start of the Bushy Stitch] dc, ch 2, sc in first st; sk 2 sts, (2 dc, 2 ch, 1 sc in next st); 12 Bushys
Row 4-10: ch 3, turn; in each ch-2 sp across, create the Bushy Stitch (2dc, 2ch, 1 sc).
**do not finish**
After the last row has been completed, fold work in half. The top of the fold should have the hdc's at the top, and your last stitch on the bottom. The crease from the fold should be on the side. Sl st edges together, loosely until you have reached the top (where your beginning chain is). Chain 3 and create the Bushy stitch as directed for row 3. Finish off & tuck in tails.
With ribbon, or with a chain 18 inches long, weave in and out of the hdc posts.
Gently pull ends together to close top; tie ends together & create a pretty bow.
