CRUISE TREK UPDATE April 7, 2008
(See link below for Rene's A. web site -- fascinating man!)
Hi there!
The following is an edited version of a mailing that was sent to all Cruise Trek Past Passengers a couple weeks ago...  some of which has been here on the web site but, below there are some additional bullet points for the upcoming trip this year.
OH -- we still have space!!  And actors/guests are listed below as well.
So, I really just wanted to make sure you all received this new information for this year’s cruise as well as next year’s cruise.
Again, I am so glad so many of you really enjoyed the trip down under. I know John de Lancie had a ball!  He passed along his feelings in a note shortly after his return…. “Thank you again for another wonderful time. It was really very special. We enjoyed the cruise and so many of the guests. Trek fans are a really smart and interesting bunch… and having dinner with them at night was something Marnie and I especially looked forward to.”   For me to see John directing the radio show was indeed special—to see him sharing the tools of his lifetime in the business and then to see you perform was nothing short of exhilarating.  That and the afternoons in the piano bar having a sing-along with his wife Marnie, and Carolyn & Steve will be my most lasting memorable moments.  Please check out: http://cid-579e123b774a915e.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Cruise%
20Trek%202007  -- Click on”CT 2007 Family Travelers” for Carolyn
Peters’ photo log of CT 2007.                And speaking of memories—I want to say thank you to long time CT family member Liane for the photos she sent of her last Central Europe river cruise.  They brought back the memories of how much I enjoyed my river cruise and inspection trip (in preparation for CT 2008- “The Blue Danube”) to Central Europe last year.  Wow–and now I get to go back for more!  It will be cooler than the last time I went there–but, after all, we are about trying new & different experiences are we not? More so, I really like the thought of staying on a warm cozy ship where the staff treats you like family. (From my experience this feeling is like none other). Or staying at a hotel and/or visiting medieval castles where we can gather around a warm fireplace sipping nice hot drinks or enjoying a festive local meal. I can't think of a more lovely time & place to share with my CT family.  Come to think of it, a very enjoyable stop this year in New Zealand included a gathering around a great fireplace in a NZ version of a castle!!
Central Europe, its castles, history, the river and stunning architecture are just amazing, and I believe it would be really nice to see it all in a different season and with fewer tourists. So, even I am planning on getting to Prague for a few days before the cruise and then continuing in Europe to Tuscany and London—and more family is welcome to come! Yes, you could say the euro is too strong for us North Americans. But at least the ship has everything for us (food, accommodations, inclusive shore excursions, bicycles, history & geography lectures, music, plus engaging, spontaneous and participatory entertainment & more) and all at one price.
Did I mention that there are natural mineral spas in Central Europe, and that our transfer from Prague to Nuremberg will have a stopover in Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary)--a really charming spa town?  Well, you can either "spa it" or “tour it” or both!  It is just great!!  And now that I am getting older--boy o' boy these spa stops really take away the pain in the joints. I am there already--in my dreams!!
Other good news—early booking and past passenger discounts have been extended to as long as allowed.  In regard to our actors, many have called me expressing their interest to sail with us on this one!!  Looks like Rene Auberjonois (Odo) http://www.renefiles.com/news.html and Ethan Phillips (Neelix) can as they say “count us in”... of course this is subject to change.  And, we have our old friends Eric Stillwell (Yesterday’s Enterprise co-writer) and his lovely wife Debra sailing with us this year.  Lolita Fatjo (ST: script coordinator) and Trek expert Richard Arnold will be aboard too!  All is setting up to be an extraordinary & intimate group.

Here’s to more wonderful adventures in travel & great experiences!
P.S.  Below are more bullet point info on the upcoming cruise as well as info on CT 2009.  For a booking form please click this link.

Airfares: Just as an important reminder… airfares are not as difficult or as expensive as most of would think.  In fact, the “open jaw” fares (into Prague or Nuremberg & out of Budapest) have been very easy to locate either online at various sites or a great air agent.  Plus, last month we saw prices as low as $660 from LAX and even less from NYC.  Have a good air agent look into prices – they sometimes can find consolidator fares at very reasonable prices…. Or more succinctly – it is a good idea to shop for airfares!
Hotels:
•    Prague: newer hotel on picturesque Castle Hill; includes breakfast & Internet access – €135 + tax - a single is 125
& with a historic Monastery right next door (www.strahovskyklaster.cz) for great views & restaurant
•    Budapest: Numerous hotels to choose from; we have a centrally located locale with good rates
But, we do recommend lunch or coffee at the New York or Royal Corinthia hotels—AMAZING!
Prague Tours: We are working on a City Tour in Prague available for all at $29US morning of November 6 & we’ll have an afternoon Tour of Terezin (Theresienstadt in German).  The latter tour at $69US is for those of you who are inclined to visit a memorial to the Holocaust. The memorial is sure to be sobering; but, having never done something like this before, I thought I should see a bit of this history first hand. If anyone wants to see a truly amazing documentary on this subject and how one very special grammar school (in what could be thought of as backwoods Tennessee) chose to try to understand that time in the world’s history -- please check out The Paper Clip Project. Be sure to watch the director’s/writers narrated version of it after seeing the documentary for even more insight.  Tour prices are subject to change.
Transfers:
•    From Prague to Nuremberg - $99US per person
•    Departs Castle Hill hotel 8:00am sharp Nov 8
•    Includes stopover in Carlsbad for 3-hour spa visit or town tour – please see         www.touristbonus.com/karlovyVary_en/www/link/107.asp
•    For airport to/from ship/hotel – taxis are very easy to obtain and arrange
Dinner the night before our cruise & Local meet & Greet:  we will have our usual Pre cruise dinner in Prague on the night of Nov 7.  Also, we are planning a local meet & greet for our guests and locals fans in both Prague & Budapest – more details to follow.
Passport & Transit Concerns:  no worries any more! :-)
•    Traveling across the former Eastern Bloc of Europe is really easy; CZ Republic is border free zone
•    Check out this article: http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=7648
Clothing: The following is straight from the cruise line: “It’s casual during the day and I would say country club casual at night.  There are 2 dressy nights – one is the Welcome Reception and the other one is the Farewell Dinner or Captain’s Dinner.  On these two nights, some people dress up a little bit.  For women, a nice dress, skirt or slacks with a nice top is fine.  For the men, they can either wear a coat or tie (although, not required) or just a sports jacket is fine.  It’s not as fancy like the ocean cruise lines.  Some people want to dress up while others don’t.  There is really no formal dress code.  [You] can wear whatever is comfortable.”  Sorry—there is no self service laundry onboard ship.
Nice itinerary option:
•    We overnight onboard in both Nuremburg and Budapest (corrected typo-4/17)—so you can fly in & out on same days as we sail & disembark (so, no need for a hotel—nice idea for those saving money for CT09!)
Any questions of the above?  Simply contact us via email or phone & we’ll take care of you.
FYI: Ethan Phillips (Neelix) is in a David Mamet play, on Broadway with Nathan Lane called November!
Cruise Trek 2009: Working on an adventure back to Bermuda for late spring of 2009 – please keep posted to the website for more information.  Of course – this is subject to change.

Below there is a link to a great article on cruising the Blue Danube & another on the ship details.  There are bicycles on board for our free use! Internet access is free on
