CTA BUS ASSIGNMENTS - 1983-1991General description of types of buses assigned to each garage during this period. Prior to 1983, nearly all garages had some Flxible and General Motors buses built in the 1960's. The arrival of the 7100's, 9800's, and 1600's in 1983 resulted in the retirement of all buses built prior to the 3700's. And the arrival of the 4000's in 1985 resulted in the retirement of all buses built prior to the 1970's, except for the narrow 3700's required for use on the Lake Street route. In 1984, the new Kedzie Garage opened. And Lawndale Garage, which had been temporarily reopened to allow for the Kedzie Garage replacement, was closed. Lawndale Garage was reopened in 1986, when North Avenue Garage was closed. In 1988, 103rd St. Garage opened, and Beverly Garage was closed. Some shifting of buses was done at that time, also involving 77th St. Garage.
