Boxer Rescue SponsoringThis page is dedicated to those folks who take it upon themselves, and their pocketbooks, to care for those boxers that are abondoned by their family. We wish to offer them support for their efforts, especially when they get a special needs dog. Besides these special needs dog there is a "special needs fund" that is the Boxer ER fund. If you do not see a dog here that "grabs your heart" how about making a donation to the ER? You can get the info you need from Rachel. This group has offered help for many dogs. This provides a source of funding for all the rescue groups when they can't reach us very quickly.
Someone mentioned to me that it cost $500 to obtain a 501(c)(3) non-profit status. I guess the IRS needs this fee to cover the paperwork involved, and there is the need for someone to fill out the huge stack of forms that the IRS wants! Maybe some of you would be willing to help a local rescue group get such a status by either donating money or, if you have the necessary skills, time to get this status for them? And there are going to be other ways you can help, see the e-mail below the list of dogs for some other ideas. I've also added a link page, this will show you where there are other rescues, and you should be able to find one in your own back yard! There is the Boxer Rescue Message Center for up to date information about dogs needing homes (I check it every day!). This article is from PetsMart, it is the Pet's Bill of Rights. I think there are a lot of people in this world who need to read this and understand exactly what that means! And let's start with Mr. Carter and his "lovely" wife who surrendered Blaze of Irish Glory because he ate candy from the candy dishes left down low! And while we're making a list of folks who need to understand about life and dogs, how about the people who allowed Fortune is a Lady to get to such a sorry state as shown here? If you are a member of the BML, and have a rescue dog that you would like to see added to the list, contact me at CTCavyCare and I will add the information to the table. If you also send a scanned picture, I'll add that to the website as well.
Hey all: There are lots and lots of inexpensive, easy things you can do to help boxers in need. I foster for my local rescue group. When I started, I had a small stack of "dog" blankies and towels. My first several fosters either suffered from separation anxiety or were bored and quickly reduced my stack to zero. I've bugged my friends, family and coworkers so much that they now redecorate annually and give me their cast-offs. I scour thrift stores, but haven't much luck (seems that people are in need of blankets too). How many of you buy your pets a new collar and leash for their birthday or Christmas? Donate the used ones to rescue! Same goes for food and water dishes. Many garage sales have pans or bowls that can be purchased inexpensively. Ever buy a bag of food that your pets turns his nose up at, or win a bag of some brand you don't use in a raffle? Even clipping dog food coupons can be a big help. I think your friends and families may be an untapped source of all the "little" things that rescuers can use everyday. Type up a small flyer to hang in pet food stores and vet's offices, put your name and phone number at the bottom, and when you've collected a box full of donations, take it to your local rescue group. Then, smile and think of all the homeless boxers you've helped make more comfortable! michelec@infinet.com [Editors Note: You could also participate in the CUR runs that move boxers from one place to another. About all that is needed is a safety harness for the dog to wear in the car (I just got one for my girl that cost $13.00) and a crate big enough for the dog if it needs to stay the night at your house.Or, if you have a digital camara, you could go to your local rescue and take pictures of their dogs for them and send the special needs ones to me to add to this site! Every little bit helps, most of us are not strong enough to do something all by ourselves - I see that when I watch our high school football team play - but as a group there really isn't much we can't do.] Check this site out for other ideas on how you can help rescue groups in your area. |
