June 2. AHHHHH! We finally made it all the way from Iowa! The adventure of our lives (our lives meaning my mother, aunt, sister, and myself ),was in motion!
Our first stop... London. As we climbed the stairs of the subway station, BIG BEN was waiting to be the first thing in our sight! It is one thing to see it in a movie or post card, but to see it up close... it's BREATH TAKING! AMAZING!
After a stroll about town, (and a spot of tea at a cafe), we headed to our hotel, The Regent Palace which was located in Piccadilly Circus for some R & R.
June 3 Today we visited the Tower of London, and then Buckingham Palace.
The Tower used to serve at a look out for invaders, and was also used for beheadings! OUCH!! Today it has a less tortureous job... housing the crown jewels. :)
At Buckingham Palace we watched the Royal guards doing there thing, or should I say doing nothing. How boring!!!! These poor men need lives!!!! However, they are probably making some serious cash and for that, maybe I could even stand still! :)
We tried everything hoping that one might crack a smile. No such luck! Guess we should have flashed them some bum! YEAH BABY!
Later on that day as we were walking along the streets (with our mouths hanging open) we came across a large group of people at Westminster Abbey. We found out that a funeral was taking place for a famous violinist. Prince Charles and his Royal Mum were attending it. So naturally, the crowd gathered waiting for a glimpse of the two. We just happened to be at the right place at the right time and got to see them being escorted from the church. My sister managed to get Charles on our video camera. How cool! Up until this point, the only Prince I had ever seen was the great Purple one O+~ ! HA!
JUNE 4. Here is a picture of my mom(left), sister (middle), and I. This is after we had been to THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at Her Majesty's Theater in Royal Hay Market, London. I had never been to anything like this in my life! Sure I have been to local plays and concerts, but this..this was AWESOME!
The theater was rather tiny, but very beautiful. The small size allowed everyone to feel as if they had a front row seat. I don't think anything I could ever watch could top that. I still get chills just thinking about it. I would highly recomend Phantom to anyone planning a visit to London.
OH! The night before Phantom, (JUNE 3), we went to a play staring Richard Dreyfus and Marsha Mason. The title was, Prisoner of 2nd Avenue, and it was also located in Royal Hay Market. It was hilarious! We laughed throughout the entire show. They're both extremely talented.
