Bass Trombone, Philadelphia Orchestra

Blair Bollinger is the Bass Trombonist of The Philadelphia Orchestra. He was raised in Georgia and joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1986, following his graduation from The Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with his Orchestra predecessor, Charles Vernon, as well as with Glenn Dodson, the Orchestra's retired Principal Trombonist.


As a soloist, Mr. Bollinger has performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Savannah (GA) Symphony. He was winner of the 1986 Philadelphia Orchestra Senior Student Competition, having the singular honor of being the only trombonist to win this competition since it began in 1934. Mr. Bollinger has performed recitals and given master classes in Israel, Chile, Japan and throughout the United States. Mr. Bollinger has an acclaimed recording, "Four of a Kind," on the Summit Records label. This is a trombone quartet album made with colleagues from the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony and Empire Brass.  In addition, Mr. Bollinger has recorded a solo disc entitled "Fancy Free" through D'Note Records.

He is a clinician for the Edwards Instrument Company and is on the faculty at Temple University and The Curtis Institute of Music.
